@ElizabethJBond @Lizzy7214 @Femi_Sorry I think its also about the impact on the Royal Family of the whole story, which is significant. It's understandable that Morgan would be animated by that.

@sarahpegg9 @IanDunt And in the meantime a British citizen was released from an Iranian jail after months of ill treatment but is about to be fitted up with with yet another ‘crime’. Her life & that of her husband and toddler daughter are permanently scarred with her treatment. But ...Megs&Haz.
English

@LMcjury @LeedsEurope @waspman75 @mikegalsworthy The census is an important factual survey of who lives in Britain to help future planning. It's not political and shouldn't be made so.
English

@sazmeister88 @mikegalsworthy It's not a question of identify but of ethnicity.
English

@mikegalsworthy i'm putting European because that is my identity but i'm also going to go on about on twitter because it's funny how angry people are getting about it
English

@PeterWilson68 @SteveEls1 @AvfcsteveSd @AdoreAppys Hear your point, but you don't need privatisation to modernise, and privatisation doesn't always generate value for the user.
English

@SteveEls1 @AvfcsteveSd @AdoreAppys Very true NHS needs privatisation it’s like British Leyland in the 1970s
English

@AvfcsteveSd @marenbennette It's almost like it was the intention to whip up a furore in support of the NHS to divert from other issues.
English

@adavescott @tomhfh Tax is about all three of wealth distribution, behaviour incentives, and inflationary hot spot identification. And, of course, nothing to do with “funding”.
English

@AlanDownunder @tomhfh If that is right, then, in my mind, this becomes about wealth distribution. Protecting the pound means those with assets dont lose out on an international stage, but it also means the workers can't be paid.
English

@AlanDownunder @tomhfh Similar arguments.
My point was that there IS a magic money tree, because Gov debt is unimpeachable. But if it's all spend with no overall increase in tax then the currency is devalued. Is that not right?
English

@AlanDownunder @tomhfh A liability as defined in tax law. That's a circular argument.
The national debt is also not really a debt.
English

@adavescott @tomhfh Tax is not paying back assets - it’s redeeming liabilities.
English

@james_beaum_ @Manoama89203646 @DavidLammy Now I realise that David Lammy's tweet was actually his (mixed race?) children. I guess for the sake of the census they're obliged to pick whether they follow mum or dad. That must be difficult. Isn't "mixed" an option? It usually is on surveys.
English

@james_beaum_ @Manoama89203646 @DavidLammy And remember, this is about a survey question asking you to pick a 'colour' then refine the origin. It's not saying black people can't be British. It's acknowledging that "black DNA" rarely originates from the British Isles.
English

@AlanDownunder @tomhfh Tax is just a way to pay back what we call the National Debt. It doesn't have to be a tax on spending.
English

@adavescott @tomhfh It would be nice if taxing the rich was more disinflationary than taxing those with a greater marginal propensity to spend, but the opposite is the case. Tax the rich to equalise power and influence and worry about deflation now, not inflation.
English

@Manoama89203646 @james_beaum_ @DavidLammy England is not a country in the way we would describe other countries. It's more like a province or state. The UK seems to insist on holding onto this term for domestic political reasons
English

@adavescott @james_beaum_ @DavidLammy Actually England for all its failings IS our country, it’s in a political union with Scotland, Wales & NI but it’s still a country by right. And sadly it looks increasingly likely that the political Union between the countries won’t last for much longer.
English

@Manoama89203646 @james_beaum_ @DavidLammy But you're presuming a definition here and then using that as your basis to explain your definition. "English people are people who are born English". I infer you mean people who are born in England. Thats not helpful to a survey question about ethnic origin.
English

@adavescott @james_beaum_ @DavidLammy People who are born Englishmen/women. And I doubt there are many pure ethnically English anywhere in existence. We’re all a big mix. God I hate ethnonationalism
