NRI here.
Not a single NRI I know has ever been happy they invested in India. My sister's investment was a mistake, my best friend's investment was a mistake.
All regret it. Be it buying property or stocks.
Because the countries they live in, US, Canada, Australia have given far better returns, especially when you factor in dollar depreciation.
One of the few smart things I have done in my life is not invest a single paise in India. Ever.

There is a large population of NRIs who are emotionally and financially interested in investing in India. But today, for many of them, the process of opening accounts, completing documentation, and actually investing in Indian markets is still far more painful than it needs to be. Making life easier for NRIs could be one of the lowest-hanging fruits for attracting long-term capital into India. This is something we’ve been focusing on heavily at @zerodha as well. Over the last year or so, we’ve made several changes to make investing as seamless as possible for NRIs. But there are still many frictions that exist because of regulatory and compliance requirements. Hopefully, SEBI and the government look at this more closely and think about how to make it easier for NRIs to bring money into India and participate in Indian markets. For a country trying to attract global capital, the Indian diaspora seems like the most obvious place to start.

According to Indian Oil Corporation reports, Base price of petrol is around ₹53/litre.
In India:
• Dealer commission ~ ₹4
• Central Excise ~ ₹22
• State Tax ~ ₹17
Final Price = ₹100+
Meaning ₹39+ goes into govt pocket.
But when petrol is exported to Bhutan, India exempts these taxes.
So Bhutan gets petrol near base price.
Bhutan applies nominal Sales tax + Green Tax on petrol.
Final price in Bhutan~ ₹60–63/litre.
Indians pay almost double for the same petrol.
