Starmer is allowing the General Medical Council to regulate "medical associates" - people with far less training than actual doctors

'A manufactured GP unemployment crisis' perfectly captures the situation.
👉Skilled, exam-qualified doctors are ready to care for patients, yet positions are scarce.
👉Patients want care, yet the system blocks it.
The system is failing both doctors and patients.

Three GP registrars at @WilmslowHealth have passed all their exams at the end of over 10yrs of training!🎉 Yet in an NHS crying out for access, there are almost no GP jobs to apply for A manufactured GP unemployment crisis And no there aren’t 2600 more GPs ARRS @wesstreeting

Clearly there is a nursing requirement for patients in plastic surgery. Mobility, hygiene, wound healing, graft viability, dressings (type/size/application etc!!), patient education, and patient advocacy all of which become increasingly important with increasing patient co-morbidities and complexities.
And clearly we need to value clinical nurses in order to retain them for patients (and doctors!) to have access to qualified and high skilled nursing care.
Having a parallel clinic of doctors and nurses working along side each other would make sense for this. This is teamwork, this is support.
But the idea that a nurse can supervise a doctor clearly means something has gone wrong. Just as it would be for a doctor supervising a nurse.
We are different disciplines with different roles. We do different jobs. Yes, there is some overlap which allows us to understand each other but that does not mean we are interchangeable and it is an insult to both professions to suggest that we could be.
This video is not an example of working together.
This is not teamwork.
This is not support.
This is substitution.

Consultant Nurse Kate wants to leave the NHS because she lacks a registrar to supervise today: they’re busy with the trauma list at the main hospital! Tough day, Kate? 🙄

@AmandaPritchard Amanda I'm a retired NHS consultant and if I was transported back to 1981 I would still go to medical school.
However, if I was 18 now - absolutely no way! Successive iatrophobic administrations - including yours - have ruined the job.

@AmandaPritchard Are you joking? A doctor entering the NHS now will be paid £15/hr, saddled with a 100k student loan.
Working nights, evenings, weekends, flung across every part of the country with no regard of their wellbeing. Treated like children. All for what?
Stop lying to them.

@Dr_Done_ “Doctor informed”. “I’m not signed off for that”. In the NHS doctors are liability sponges. In most cases also get paid less than said HCP’s once you factor in unsocial hours/area weighting’s. Vote to reject the new pay offer. Don’t sell yourselves too short. Strike on. 🦀
