Dear Friends, Followers, and Kindred Spirits, Earlier this year, I shared that my international assignments would pull me away from the pulse of home, dimming my involvement in the daily rhythms back there. Today, I stand on new soil to make a heartfelt announcement: I have bid farewell to the vibrant heart of Kenya and crossed into the enchanting realm of Al-Maghrib—Morocco, where ancient minarets pierce the azure skies and the air hums with the call to prayer. Oh, Kenya! My beloved Kenya, land of sun-drenched savannas and unbreakable bonds. Your people wrapped me in warmth as profound as the Apostle Paul's words: "You cared for me so deeply that, if possible, you would have plucked out your own eyes and given them to me." As a missionary, I always carried the quiet knowledge that farewells are woven into this calling—the time to depart arrives like the setting sun. And so, I left, carrying fragments of your spirit in my heart. As William Shakespeare says, Parting is sweet sorrow”. Yet, Kenya remains my other home. Now, here in Morocco's labyrinthine medinas and spice-scented souks, my fluent English echoes hollowly, a stranger in this tapestry of tongues. At this stage of life, I'm diving headfirst into the melodic waves of Arabic and the elegant flow of French, fueled by sheer determination. Mark my words: I will conquer them, one syllable at a time. Amid the stumbles and silences, I've rediscovered the unyielding fire of the human spirit—resilient, adaptive, unbreakable. Communication falters, but we bridge the gaps with smiles, gestures, and the magic of technology, turning barriers into shared stories. For the first time in my 21 years loyal to my Econet sim card, I've landed in a place where its signal cannot reach me. It's a poignant disconnection, a symbolic thread snapped from my roots in Zimbabwe. But let me declare it loud and clear: I didn't flee the homeland—I evolved. From a local advocate, I've blossomed, as destiny called, into a continental champion for disability development, carrying the torch across borders to ignite change wherever it's needed. Zimbabwe, my origin story, you're navigating stormy seas toward a landmark Disability Act. I hold unwavering faith in the fierce, skilled warriors—men and women with disabilities, and the tireless souls in the movement—who will steer this vital journey to victory. Dr Jokwiro wins big at international stage. ZimSmart Villages Chief Medical Officer, Dr Admore Jokwiro, has scored big at an international stage after scooping the Virtual Care Leadership Excellence award from Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Telehealth Organization at their annual conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia today. Dr Jokwiro, a renowned Doctor who has made a mark through his eHealth programme across the country received the award to recognize thought leadership and excellence in pioneering and implementing telehealth and remote monitoring through establishment of telehealth kiosks in post offices in Zimbabwe. Through the ZimSmart Villages innitiattive, at least 17 post offices have been connected along with a virtual hospital for clients with non- communicable conditions. The project has signaled a new approach to enhancing access by providing integrated health services leveraging technology to provide consultations along with telediagnostics and telepharmacy. Dr Jokwiro said the award demonstrates an appreciation of the importance of the work Zimbabwe is doing to improve access to health through telehealth approaches. "This recognition is for ZimSmart Villages, our stakeholders internal and external, our supporters and partners.The government of Zimbabwe has given us a social license to innovate and operate and for that we are grateful to the Ministry Of Health and Child Care, Ministry of ICT Postal and Courier Services. The award is timely as it creates a bedrock for collaboration with countries like Saudi Arabia who have been moving swiftly to embed virtual care as a key health delivery mode".
