After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC.
May God bless America.

@JosephJacks_ You’re right, companies can hurt people - yet in the US at least I don’t quite see how they can jail people or worse. The government however has unlimited, life and death power - like ICE has just shown us. What am I not seeing?
English

It is far worse for a private company controlled by < 5 people to mass surveil US citizens (and citizens of MANY other countries) than for the extremely incompetent US government to mass surveil the citizens.
The hard reality is, this dynamic has already been true for a long time... See Facebook, Google, Amazon, Tesla, etc...!

@JosephJacks_ Is it possible Anthropic just wants to choose what their product can be used for?
English

Anthropic is lying. The @DeptofWar doesn’t do mass surveillance as that is already illegal. What we are talking about is allowing our warfighters to use AI without having to call @DarioAmodei for permission to shoot down an enemy drone swarms that would kill Americans. #CallDario

As a small personal shareholder in Anthropic I appreciate the company's position here. I would add that (a) the US military should not be engaged in domestic surveillance period and (b) using any general foundation model in a fully autonomous weapon is a terrible idea.

@ylecun Why arent so many tech leaders not terrified of what Trump is doing? Spending time on Venezuela vs figuring out how to help the US be competitive and prosperous in the 21st century?

8 years ago, I spent over $200k to exercise my startup options.
I didn't have enough saved, so I took out a big loan.
A few years later the company was acquired. Decent outcome. But after paying back the loan and taxes, my startup equity actually cost me money.
The Wall Street Journal shared my story last week. That experience shaped how we built equity at Gamma.
When we started the company, we made a vow: if Gamma succeeded, our team should share in that success. Without having to pay upfront.
So we designed our equity program around it, including secondary opportunities with cashless exercise.
As part of our Series B, we completed our first employee tender. $44M led by IVP.
Our early team, anyone with vested options, was allowed to participate. Some have been with us for over five years. None of them had to take out a loan to share in what they helped build.

Wow. Zuck buying $150m home in Florida. Companies have a tendency to be near the CEO. Even part of the time. Could $META move some peeps to FL? Employee base would love the state income tax rate. Gives everyone an immediate raise. wsj.com/real-estate/lu…

@bigdrop @lthlnkso @shaunmmaguire No doubt - Pretty made some poor choices. Did he deserve to be shot in the back at close range and killed while pinned to the ground by 3-5 guys? And why 10 bullets? It seems they wanted to make sure he dies.
English

@lthlnkso @shaunmmaguire Are you unwilling or unable to concede that Pretti at least made one poor decision that day? Was it legal for him to carry a gun? Sure. Was it "the best idea ever"? I don't think so. I will gladly concede that the ICE officers made many very bad decisions.

@shaunmmaguire It would be amazing to see you speak out when you see the DHS secretary viciously smear a person on national tv who just got killed by her staff with no evidence. As a PhD you probably believe in discovering what’s true, no?
