I posted the offense yesterday. Now here's a look at the Vikings' defensive depth chart (and special teams) a month ahead of the draft. What stands out most here?

The Vikings have signed one of the best punters of this generation: Johnny Hekker. It’s a one year deal. A pretty good group of specialists with Will Reichard and Andrew DePaola.

the Ravens had buyer's remorse over trading 2 first-round picks (something they've never done before) for Maxx Crosby plus his $65M in cap hits the next 2 years... they saw Trey Hendrickson's asking price fall after he couldn't agree to a deal in the first 2 days of legal tampering... of course Crosby wasn't 100%, but they knew that already and realized they could pay less, give up zero draft capital and still get EDGE Trey Hendrickson...so they used the opportunity to get out using a failed physical a conspiracy theorist's dream

Trading Greenard makes a ton of sense. Dallas Turner looks ready to step into a starting role + Greenard is still valuable enough to potentially return a 2nd round pick. Maybe more.

One Vikings QB option I'm pretty intrigued by is Geno Smith. He was legitimately very good from 2022-24 in Seattle, especially on deep passes. He can hit the intermediate throws over the middle that KOC loves. The fit might be better than you think.

At first glance, seems to be a lot to like about these Vikings assistant coach hires. Frank Smith worked closely with Mike McDaniel and should help a run game that's been an issue for all of O'Connell's tenure. Ryan Nielsen has DC experience and interviewed with the Vikings before they hired Flores three years ago. Gerald Alexander seems to be a rising star. I understand people will be skeptical of promoting Keith Carter to OL coach, but he's got plenty of experience in that role and KOC clearly liked what he brought last year.

@PhilMackey Good for Sam… yea it stings. At the time with a guy on rookie contract it made sense.. it just hasn’t worked out. They may have swung and missed on a qb.. not for sure yet. Sam was awful in his early years.. but if JJ is bad someone will be held accountable..
