I believe the $GME warrants are structured as a self-funding mechanism for the Butterfly transaction. Here's the sequence: GameStop acquires the DK-Butterfly shell. As part of the merger, former $BBBY shareholders must receive GME shares to satisfy the Section 382(l)(5) NOL requirement. This brings legacy BBBY short positions back to life, because those "dead" obligations now convert into real GME share delivery requirements. That forced covering triggers a squeeze well above the $32 warrant strike price. Warrant holders exercise approximately 59 million warrants at $32 each, generating roughly $1.9 billion in fresh cash for GameStop. That $1.9 billion is almost exactly what's needed to settle the estate's obligations, including BNY Mellon's $1.18 billion claim (held on behalf of bondholders) and the remaining creditor claims and administrative costs. The deal pays for itself. The warrants are a pre-loaded capital raise timed to fund the acquisition after the squeeze makes exercise inevitable.
