Evaluating our interventions means recognising racism as a health determinant. Anti-racism means using metrics that measure how effectively efforts reduce the impact of racism on health outcomes. #RHO_AntiRacism

A research project undertaken at two emergency departments in King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has identified 715 people with #hepatitisB - almost a quarter of who were not already diagnosed. The research, presented at the recent BASL Annual Meeting in Harrogate reinforces our ongoing calls for opt-out blood testing for hepatitis B, #hepatitisC and #HIV across all emergency departments across the UK, and highlights the worrying gaps in the follow up, care and monitoring of patients who have been diagnosed with hepatitis B (HBV). Constant elevations in blood glucose harden your arteries and stiffen your heart This is a major problem in people with type 2 diabetes Here's what happens: -> Glucose reacts with lipids and proteins, leading to the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) -> AGEs stiffen the collagen in blood vessels & arteries -> They also decrease myocardial elasticity, playing a big role in the stiffening of your heart with age Long-term, the risk for all of the following increases: • Heart attacks • Hypertension • Cardiovascular disease
