After being bailed, Buea based Ndape Sally has now said she never received summons in the case putting her against Barrister Ewule and co. However CNA has obtained evidence that she was actually summoned on many occasions and twice she evaded being handed the summons. On one of the occasions, she allegedly said she was out of town when told about the summons. CNA also obtained a written note the appellant's lawyer wrote to the judiciary on the feedback about the summons. On April 17, Barrister Jingwa Betangha, explained that he called the suspect and even went to her residence in Great Soppo but she refused to pick or see him. He then sent her the summons via her Whatsapp number which she read but never replied. CNA also understands that Sally only went to the Gendarmerie when her insider told her that a warrant of arrest was being prepared against her. According to findings, one of the complaintants withdrew the case on good faith pending Sally's disclaimer video when she gets bailed. But after she was bailed, she allegedly wrote to the complainants partners, saying she was unjustly arrested. Sally has also introduced a new title to her name, Whistle Blower to the surprised of many who know her for threatening people and calling them names online. The case is now being handled by the Court.

Holders of African passports can now travel to Togo without paying for any visa, the country’s security ministry has announced.  The visa exemption for holders of African passports went into effect yesterday, May 18. According to the ministry, the measure reflects the ongoing commitment by Togo to promote African integration, strengthen the free movement of people and goods, and foster increased cooperation among the states and peoples of the continent. It said the measure is also part of the dynamic of openness, modernization, and attractiveness initiated by President Faure Gnassingbé with the ambition of making Togo a regional hub for services, business, culture, and people-to-people exchanges in the heart of Africa. “Through this decision, the president of the council also reaffirms his commitment to Pan-African ideals, continental solidarity, and community and African commitments regarding mobility and regional integration," it added. Visa exemption means travelers will not pay a dime but will still have to undergo security, immigration, and public health requirements applicable to the West African nation. Togo has become the sixth African nation to remove the visa fee for holders of valid African passports. #MMINews

Sally Ndape, a human rights advocate who was detained for a few days at the Gendarmerie in Buea, has said she never received any summons. This is the first time she has spoken since regaining her liberty about two weeks ago. Sally’s outing has changed the narrative, as the complainants—Buea-based lawyer Barrister Ewule Lyonga and co — had intimated that she was arrested after failing to honor three summonses. Ewule had accused Sally of defamation, false threats, and cyber criminality. Following her release, MMI learned that she has been charged; however, we are unable to verify the charges. Sally has described her detention as "unlawful," adding that it has caused humiliation, emotional pain, and isolation. “The past days have been among the most challenging and difficult moments of my life, combined with my health issues,” she said. “There were moments I genuinely feared for my life because of what I saw and went through during my unlawful detention,” she added. Her detention, we learned, resulted from the fact that she challenged Barrister Ewule’s professional ethics, as she alleged the Barrister shared her private conversation with a third party. According to Barrister Ewule, Sally’s “insulting him” vice president of the Cameroon Bar Assembly inadvertently insulted the Cameroon Bar. #MMINews

Veteran Cameroonian music icon Ni Ken has filed a 200 million FCFA lawsuit against artist 237 Towncryer over the unauthorized use of his hit song, “Sawale.” Ni Ken, widely known as the original creator of the classic track, accuses 237 Towncryer of using or sampling the song without his permission, without a legal agreement, and without proper credit. According to his legal team, the alleged copyright infringement has caused the veteran musician financial loss and damaged his professional reputation. The lawsuit reportedly follows several failed attempts to settle the matter privately. Ni Ken is said to have reached out to 237 Towncryer and later spoke publicly through blogger Don Chaeule, demanding recognition and justice. After his complaints were allegedly ignored, the music legend decided to take legal action. The case has sparked debate online, with many social media users calling on younger artists to respect the work of music legends by seeking proper authorization before using classic songs. 237 Towncryer has not yet issued an official public statement on the lawsuit. #MMINews

🇨🇳🇺🇸 Trump confirmed today that China 🇨🇳 is refusing to buy NVIDIA chips because they are developing their own NVIDIA has lost out BIG in China 🇨🇳 When NVIDIA had an unassailable lead, China 🇨🇳 was buying. It was great business for the US 🇺🇸 Then sanctions stopped the sales. China 🇨🇳 was forced to develop this new technology and is now almost there. They have already mastered the 5nm chip technology. During Trump’s visit, they refused to buy NVIDIA because they intend to compete in the market and maybe even bankrupt them with better, much cheaper products. Another sanction that has backfired. If you can’t beat them, join them.

A rather unusual incident brought proceedings to a halt at the Mbale High Court in eastern Uganda. A swarm of bees suddenly invaded the courthouse late Thursday afternoon, forcing an immediate and unplanned evacuation of everyone inside. Judges, lawyers, security officers and visitors all rushed out of the building. According to Frank Baine, spokesperson for the Ugandan Prison Service, the swarm appeared from an unknown direction before descending on the basement holding cells around 5 p.m., triggering chaos among detainees, prison guards and court staff. In the confusion, two inmates managed to escape. “We had brought 60 prisoners to court for routine hearings, but only 58 returned,” Baine stated. Two prison officers were also seriously stung and hospitalized before later being discharged. The incident drew even more attention because of the circumstances surrounding it. Among the accused present that day was a man facing charges linked to alleged witchcraft practices. Witnesses said he remained completely calm in the courtroom while everyone else fled, and the bees reportedly did not attack him. Videos of the scene quickly spread online, fueling widespread reactions and speculation. Court activities at the Mbale High Court are expected to resume once authorities confirm the premises are safe. #MMINews

Cameroon officially began farewell ceremonies this Thursday for Marcel Niat Njifenji, the first President of the Senate since the creation of the upper house in 2013. The removal of the body took place at the mortuary of the Yaoundé General Hospital. The body was then transferred to the Economic and Social Council for parliamentary tributes, before being taken to the Palais des Congrès de Yaoundé for public honors, followed by a vigil from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Marcel Niat Njifenji was born on October 26, 1934, in Bangangté. Educated in France, he obtained a degree in physical sciences and mathematics from the Faculty of Clermont-Ferrand, before earning an engineering diploma from Supélec. He was part of the first wave of Cameroonian students who returned home after studying abroad. In 2013, following the victory of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement in the senatorial elections, he was elected the first President of the Senate with 86 votes out of 100, a position he held until his death. He passed away on April 11, 2026, at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Yaoundé after an illness, at the age of 91. By Decree No. 2026/167 signed on May 4, 2026, President Paul Biya ordered official state funerals in his honor. On Friday, May 15, the funeral procession will leave Yaoundé at 10:00 a.m. for Bangangté, where he will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 16, in his native neighborhood of Mandja. The city has mobilized for a historic state farewell, with logistics coordinated at the highest level. Minister Célestine Ketcha Courtès had already visited the area on May 8 to supervise the condition of roads and infrastructure intended to host dignitaries. For the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, his political party, his loyalty to Paul Biya was constant, openly embraced, and deeply structuring. He belonged to a generation for whom political commitment was rooted in continuity, without fluctuation or ambiguity. A chapter in the institutional history of Cameroon is coming to an end. #MMINews

The 2026 Finance Law introduces a package of tax relief measures that could reduce investment costs in the agropastoral sector by nearly 30%. Among the flagship measures are VAT exemptions on the purchase of pesticides, fertilizers, and agricultural inputs, as well as exemptions from tax and employer charges on the wages of seasonal farm workers. According to the latest data published on April 1, 2026, by the National Institute of Statistics of Cameroon, Cameroon imported 227,372 tons of fertilizer in 2025, representing a bill of 65.2 billion CFA francs. Over the 2020–2025 period, the average annual value of imports stood at 56 billion CFA francs. A worrying dependency, further aggravated by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The government is also displaying industrial ambitions: a chemical fertilizer plant project estimated at 500 billion CFA francs has been included in the 2026–2028 Budget Programming Document, with construction expected to begin in 2028 and operations scheduled for 2030. In addition, the company Vision Global plans to build two factories in Limbe and Yaoundé with an American partner, aiming to produce 230,000 tons of ammonia and 400,000 tons of urea annually. The government is also preparing another production unit in Douala, linked to the Logbaba gas fields. But history weighs heavily. The fertilizer plant project by Ferrostaal, which was supposed to be supplied by the Etinde gas field as early as 2013, never materialized. According to observers, this “ghost project” illustrates a regime that has perfected the art of making promises with enough precision to appear credible, without ever being held accountable. In summary, while the 2026 tax measures represent a positive short-term signal, the issue of local fertilizer production in Cameroon remains unresolved, tied to industrial projects whose implementation is still uncertain. #MMINews

Graduates of the Higher Technical Teachers' Training College (HTTTC) Kumba, a specialized school under the University of Buea, are raising alarm over the prolonged delay in the issuance of their certificates. This problem, writes a graduate, is crippling their chances of securing jobs in educational establishments. A concerned graduate, who has written to MMI News on the condition of anonymity, revealed that, despite completing studies in 2025 as a private candidate, the institution has yet to release his certificate. According to the complaint, final-year students were initially asked to compile documents for the processing and issuance of their certificates, a process typically completed within six months of finishing studies at other government higher teacher training colleges. The certificate is essential for integration into the public service for official candidates and for recruitment into the private sector for private candidates. However, in December 2025, school authorities made an urgent appeal for students to resubmit their documents for a graduation ceremony scheduled for February 28, 2026. The complainant noted that compiling these documents is relatively costly, especially for graduates who are not yet earning a stable income and many of whom had already left Kumba for other regions. Despite the financial strain, students complied and resubmitted their documents. The graduation ceremony included all batches from 2022 to 2025, meaning students who had finished more than three years ago, down to the 2025 batch, traveled from various regions of Cameroon to Buea, many hoping to finally collect their certificates. To their dismay, no certificates were issued at the ceremony. The school administration of HTTTC Kumba has so far advanced no reason for the delay, nor has it communicated when the certificates will be released. "The inconveniences suffered by us students, especially the private candidates, cannot be overstated," the complainant said. The HTTTC Kumba certificate saga is far from an isolated incident. Certification remains a persistent challenge at government higher education institutions in Cameroon, with students often spending years without obtaining their diplomas, as bureaucratic bottleneck continues to frustrate graduates and hinder their professional prospects. HTTTC Kumba graduates are appealing to the Ministry of Higher Education and all those in the command chain responsible for the release of certificates to act urgently. #MMINews

As African leaders and the French president gather in Nairobi, Kenya, industrialization and energy transition are taking center stage. The co-host of the Africa Forward Summit, President William Ruto of Kenya, has called on the continent's leaders, investors, and financiers to join forces in advancing the green industrialization and energy transition agenda. Energy remains a challenge in Africa despite its natural resources being key for such a sector.  As France partners with the continent for innovations and growth, African governments look forward to tapping into the French strategy or receiving its boost to address energy challenges. "Governments must remove the bottlenecks on the way to green industrialization by providing efficient permits, enabling predictable policy, and creating a conducive environment for investment," said William Ruto on day two of the summit. Apart from governments, he also called on financiers to make investments affordable and accessible, while businesspeople provide clarity on what they are prepared to invest in, build, buy, and their timelines for delivery. "Together, we can build Africa into a competitive industrial powerhouse that drives inclusive growth, advances climate action, and shares prosperity for generations to come," he added. For Macron, France is looking for a win-win relationship with the continent. "When Africa succeeds, Europe succeeds and vice versa," he stated. He then went on to announce €23 billion in private investment in the continent, of which €14 billion will be brought by French companies. The leaders of Nigeria, Chad, Zambia, Madagascar, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Rwanda, Egypt, Guinea, Botswana, and Ethiopia, among others, are in attendance. Also in attendance are the AU Commission chair and the UN secretary-general. #MMINews
