My Conservative team will continue to fight against this Government's unjust and misguided attempt to restrict jury trials.
@Geoffrey_Cox lays out why we will defend this institution and why it is so important that we succeed👇
"There are some things that have to be above politics....
"Jury trial is one of those institutions that have been defended by those across the aisle from me, on the opposite extreme of the political spectrum, and by those on our side of the House, out to the furthest waters of the right.
"Why is that? Because the administration of justice must be a non-ideological space. Jury trial unites us all for a simple reason: it is the most powerful instrument and engine of social justice that this country has ever invented.
"It is a safeguard against oppression. It is a built-in defence against establishment and administrative power.”
David Davis MP@DavidDavisMP
For those of you interested in jury trials, this is Parliament at its best. 👇

When I got to 199 a GB follower asked if I’d like to try for a Long-eared Owl on private land to get to 200. I said yes & he showed it to me yday. Sorry it’s not public but I’ve worked so hard to get to 200 in Glos. 1 perk of keeping you informed for 25yrs #ThatsAWrap #GlosList

@joshsimonsmp This is a major change which should have been included in the Labour manifesto. I suggest that it is postponed and included in the next Labour manifesto so that the country can decide!

@Keir_Starmer We just don't need another method of ID. My photo passport and driving license has worked perfectly during my 68 years.... Concentrate on getting things right not introducing another layer of bureaucracy!!! This is not a popular move and you would be wise to drop it.

Digital ID will be a huge help in tackling illegal immigration.
But it’s so much more than that.
It will empower people every single day by giving you a new way to prove who you are.
Saving time and money when you apply for a mortgage by cutting down unnecessary paperwork.
Proving your right to rent in one click.
Personalised public services like helping parents claim eligibility for free childcare and nursery places.
It is time to put power back in people’s hands and bring the UK into the modern age.

@BBCNewsnight The Uk population has risen from 50 million in the 1950s to 67.6 million in 2022 with a projected increase to 72.5 million by 2032. Is this increase sustainable? I would say this is the real problem that a small island needs to address.
English

"The economy grows because the population grows; tax revenues grow because more people pay those taxes."
Mehreen Khan, economics editor of the Times, says the government's goals of economic growth and a reduction in immigration numbers are contradictory.

@benonwine Yes. She took tough decisions and although some did not go down well she was admired for her courage. Leaders today do not have ideas or courage.

@JamesMelville Debt always causes misery whether it is Government or personal....as you say much better to live within our means where possible.

Well done @RachelReevesMP @Keir_Starmer after 183 years of being a school #MountStMarys #TheMount in 6 months you have managed to shut it leaving 500 and kids and their teachers with no school to go to and parents desperately trying find places in schools in the state system which we all have to pay for through more tax.
In your constituency @Louise_Jones_MP hope your proud of your achievement!

@phmbaker @LBC @Nigel_Farage Yes interesting, especially if he is in the position to form a Government because nearly all his MPs will be new with little Westminster experience and probably unknown to him.
English

‘Why must cabinet ministers be politicians? It's nonsense.'
@Nigel_Farage’s take on a new-look cabinet for Britain involves emulating America.
English

@Keir_Starmer Are you not interested in the “safety and security” of all British citizens rather than just working people? There are lots of other people - children and the retired for example - who are reliant on you to represent them as well.

@GBNEWS Very easy for the pilots to be blamed because they can’t defend themselves instead of Air India. Best to wait for the result of the investigation.

@DPJHodges I do wonder whether Farage likes the chase more than the prospect of becoming PM. If he wins the next election he will have difficulty filling the Cabinet with people he actually knows and can rely on. Reform only have 5 MPs at the moment.

People have been debating whether Nigel Farage will become Prime Minister. They needn’t bother. For all practical purposes he already is > Daily Mail > dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…

@UKLabour What has really upset me is your lies. So many promises were made before you were elected but you have done the opposite. I hope you will be punished on 1st May.

@GuidoFawkes When the Tories were in Government the media and BBC headlined this issue daily. It hardly ever gets mentioned anymore. Why?

@GBNEWS Why would Trump want to give Starmer a trade deal when he sent a large number of Labour supporters to campaign for Biden at the US elections. Trump will make Starmer beg for a deal.

@GBNEWS I've never heard of "pet rent". Invented by politican(s) to extract more money from the taxpayer??

In PMQs on Wednesday I was so shocked by Keir Starmer’s lies and obfuscation I went through the record and found he told 25 porkies in only 30 minutes.
A thread below, starting with the most glaring example.
