@joshsimonsmp This is a major change which should have been included in the Labour manifesto. I suggest that it is postponed and included in the next Labour manifesto so that the country can decide!

A free, universal digital ID is a public good. A foundation for the future, that will give all of us as citizens more control over what the state does for us. This is long overdue and I’m excited we’ll get it done.

@Keir_Starmer We just don't need another method of ID. My photo passport and driving license has worked perfectly during my 68 years.... Concentrate on getting things right not introducing another layer of bureaucracy!!! This is not a popular move and you would be wise to drop it.

Digital ID will be a huge help in tackling illegal immigration. But it’s so much more than that. It will empower people every single day by giving you a new way to prove who you are. Saving time and money when you apply for a mortgage by cutting down unnecessary paperwork. Proving your right to rent in one click. Personalised public services like helping parents claim eligibility for free childcare and nursery places. It is time to put power back in people’s hands and bring the UK into the modern age.

@BBCNewsnight The Uk population has risen from 50 million in the 1950s to 67.6 million in 2022 with a projected increase to 72.5 million by 2032. Is this increase sustainable? I would say this is the real problem that a small island needs to address.

@JamesMelville Debt always causes misery whether it is Government or personal....as you say much better to live within our means where possible.

The government say that we should all live within our means, yet they never apply this to themselves. The UK government’s debt is now close to £3 trillion. A £2.5 trillion rise over the past 20 years.

@DPJHodges I do wonder whether Farage likes the chase more than the prospect of becoming PM. If he wins the next election he will have difficulty filling the Cabinet with people he actually knows and can rely on. Reform only have 5 MPs at the moment.
