Student Stabbed To Death, Police Handcuff Victim Over Claims Of Racism.
In a horrific case that has sparked outrage over interracial violence and policing priorities, a 23 year old Sikh man is on trial for the murder an 18 year old university student.
Henry Nowak, a first year Accountancy and Finance student at the University of Southampton from Chafford Hundred in Essex, was fatally stabbed multiple times in the chest and leg while walking home from a night out with his new football teammates in the Portswood area of Southampton on December 3, 2025.
Prosecutors at Southampton Crown Court allege that Vickrum Singh Digwa, armed with a large Shastar blade, described in court as an extremely large 21cm ceremonial knife carried openly in a sheath, chased down and attacked the teenager following a brief street altercation.
Digwa claims he acted in self defence after alleging racial abuse.
According to the prosecution, the incident unfolded around 11:30pm on Belmont Road. Henry, who had been celebrating the end of his first semester, was captured on Snapchat footage sending videos to friends just moments before his death.
Digwa, reportedly carrying the oversized blade, confronted him.
Phone footage played in court shows Digwa saying, I am a bad man, as the confrontation escalated. Henry suffered a deep puncture wound to his chest, along with wounds to his leg and a cut to his jaw. He collapsed from massive blood loss and died at the scene despite desperate attempts to save him.
Disturbingly, when police arrived, they arrested and handcuffed the victim, Henry Nowak, based on Digwa's claims of racial abuse. It was only after he passed out that officers realised the severity of his injuries. First aid came too late.
Digwa, of St Denys Road, Southampton, denies murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
His mother, Kiran Kaur, 52, also of the same address, denies assisting an offender by hiding the murder weapon.
Both have pleaded not guilty and remain in custody. The trial, which began this week, is expected to last around 10 days.

Celebrity Charity Football Match In Honour of Henry Nowak.
In December 2025, Henry Nowak’s life was tragically cut short while studying at Southampton University.
Henry had just begun his first year studying Accountancy and Finance. He was a loving son, brother, cousin, grandson, nephew, friend and teammate, a young man full of life, kindness and ambition. Henry had a way of bringing people together and was deeply loved by everyone fortunate enough to know him.
On the 3rd of December, Henry went on a night out with his new university football teammates to celebrate the end of their first semester. Devastatingly, he never made it home to his family.
In the months since, the support from the community has been overwhelming. So many people have reached out asking how they can help.
This event is our answer.
On Saturday 11th July 2026, we will come together at Aveley Football Club for a Celebrity Charity Football Match in Henry’s memory, celebrating his life through the game he loved most.
All funds raised will go to 2Wish, the incredible charity that stood beside Henry’s family in their darkest moments and continues to support families facing the unimaginable loss of a child.

As one of their first acts, Reform Essex County Councillors have decided to remove the Ukraine flag
Why do that? Whose side are they on?
I’m not at all sure this ‘signal’ is what people thought they were voting for when they voted in the local elections

The move brings Essex County Council in line with Reform UK national policy, which only permits the Union, national, county or armed forces flags to fly at council buildings under its control. “Today we have raised a second Union Flag at County Hall in Chelmsford. It was a proud moment to see it flying high, representing all of the nations that make up our wonderful United Kingdom.” Cllr Peter Harris, Leader of the Council’s Reform UK group and County Council Leader Elect. The flag of Ukraine that had previously flown since 2022 has been replaced, and following discussions with the Ukrainian community in the county, will find a new home. Councillor Harris said: “The replacement of the Ukraine flag does not diminish the support and generosity that Essex residents have shown the people of Ukraine since 2022 and I know this will continue.”
