One thing game devs should learn is ABS: Always Be Shipping. I learned that working with @notch As Mojang grew and new coders joined the team, there were complaints about old code/shortcuts/“bad” technical decisions. My response was usually: without those decisions, none of us would be here. There probably wouldn’t even be a Minecraft if everything had been done the “correct” way from the start. Games are explorative. You build, test, cut, rewrite, hack things together, and keep moving. A shipped imperfect system beats a perfect system that never makes it into players’ hands. I’ve never worked on a game where you didn’t have to go back and touch old code/systems later anyway.

Realm of the Gods is also being adjusted in Patch 17.3. Some parts of Space Gods feel like certain mechanics often close off opportunities rather than open them up. These range traits like Psionic and Arbiter to bigger mechanics like Encounters and the Realm of the Gods. We've seen players feel frustrated that items often dictate their God Offering, and that the Pengu blessing is often an afterthought. We're tackling both of these by moving the item component choice to the Pengu blessing. This hopefully opens up the God Offering to really match what your team desires (or your favorite God Boon) without feeling like you have to sacrifice your intended items. This should also add a bit of extra thought into that 2nd choice when the offered Pengu champions just aren't what you need. As always, thanks for playing and helping us make Space Gods the best set it can be!

Coming in 17.3 (2 weeks from today), Morgana will be moving from a 5-cost Fighter to a 4-cost Tank. Similar to Set 16's Taric, Morgana's will have a teamwide Durability Aura, a powerful tank spell, some small additional healing to her team. Why are we doing this change post launch? Coming form Lore & Legends, we saw the benefits of providing as many viable options as possible late-game for players. In Space Gods, late-game builds of all cost strategies converged on 4-cost tanks, and specifically those that fit the traits of their specific comp. This left players feeling overly constricted and contested. Morgana as a threat-like 5-cost was splashable before, but never really had a great spot to shine, as her ceiling would never be higher than other champions with traits. This is something that would feel better in a larger roster where her utility could shine. The two problems led to what we felt would be the best solution for Space Gods and we hope this helps players feel more flexible when transitioning into Stage 4 and 5.

Patch 17.2 Notes should be up soon, but here are the changes that didn't make the Patch Rundown. Kindred/Yi is a rising comp, but even with these buffs + Brawler/Fiora buffs, probably is closer to what a 4/5 cost board should look like in the current meta.

With the first weekend of Space Gods in the books, I'm here to cover what's next on the Live Team's radar. The overall launch balance of Traits/Champions was relatively stable. There were obviously some outliers, but for a launch patch, we're fairly happy with the spread of comps. There's still a lot of content to explore and optimize, but for the time being, the highest priority player pains are things that extend above pure balance. First on our list, is the Set Mechanic. We've heard the feedback, and agree that the Gods have a lot of potential, but don't fully fill the void of the Carousel and Encounters. In 17.2 (and potentially future patches), we'll be introducing more God Blessings that aim to spice up each decision and make them feel unique to the set. As noted before, Encounters are also coming back, with the old fan favorites and a couple new ones for players to look forward too. We're committed to making the Gods feel like... well Gods. Next comes the more balance-focused topic, 3-star 4-costs. There's been a huge uptick in Set 17 for a variety of reasons: inflation, increased odds from the last set, and the power of some new/gods Augments. We're not happy with the current rate of 3-star 4-costs, and 17.2 takes a big swing at reducing them in a healthy way. We're removing some problematic augments that have been optimized for 3* 4-costs rather than their initial fantasy and taking a large pass on the set's gold inflation from a variety of sources. For now, we're not adjusting any Shop Odds, as we feel like the current values make level 8 feel less feast/famine. Finally, we've also heard the frustrations around some lines being too narrow/conditional. There's a lot to unpack here and this is already a long post, so expect something more later. But just like in Lore & Legends, we want to make sure there's a healthy balance between fun variance in TFT and stability and player agency. Things like Stargazer/Artifacts/Emblems are on our radar as areas of improvement. As always, thanks for playing!
