Earlier today, I had the privilege of receiving the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso in our family home. The Governor came to condole our family over the loss of our grandmother, Hajiya Umma. In the absence of the elders of the family, it was an honour to receive a public servant that I personally respect and adore. Under his stewardship at the apex bank, investor confidence has increased. Personally, I continue to view him as reformer and I believe he is one of, if not the best appointment by the current administration. Honest, fearless and very patriotic. As the Chairman of the Committee on Banking Regulations in the 10th House of Representatives, I have enjoyed working closely with him and his team. In the past three years, he has also been a father figure to me and I will forever be grateful for his wisdom, guidance and his total commitment to ensuring transparent orthodox monetary policy prevails in our financial system. It feels unusually quiet. Almost like we’re all just watching the clock… hoping it’s another empty threat. Maybe it is. Maybe it’s just rhetoric, like we’ve seen before. But what if it isn’t? What if this time, the threats turn into action? What if bombs fall—not on headlines or politics—but on real places where ordinary people live their lives? Can you imagine the impact this would have on lives? Children. Mothers. Fathers. The elderly. People who woke up today expecting a normal day, not fear. It’s easy to see these situations as distant or political. But at the heart of it are human lives—just like ours. History has shown us that silence can be costly. Sometimes, the things we don’t say, the moments we choose to just “watch and wait,” end up shaping the future in ways we can’t undo. I sincerely hope this is one of those moments that passes without tragedy. Because the alternative… is something the world may spend generations trying to recover from. Let's stop this war.
