Building Vera(https://t.co/yv3kb3yZ13), because founders are too good at pitching and too bad at listening. Solo founder. Mostly digging. Occasionally lucky

Mark: You know what the best thing about startups is? Ben: What? Mark: They let you experience two emotions: joy and terror. And I’ve found that sleep deprivation makes both of them more intense. — The Hard Thing About Hard Things, Chapter 2

Before you open Lovable, Replit, v0, or Cursor: 1. Write your riskiest assumption 2. Talk to 5 realistic customers 3. Look for past behavior, workarounds, and payment signals 4. Then build the smallest version that matches the evidence I’m building Vera for this pre-build step.

This model is truly amazing. If given sufficient freedom, it can completely rebuild the entire project's user interface.

The mass construction of new datacenters and power across the US reminds me of the mass buildout of the Internet. Whenever something like this happens, something new becomes true that previously everyone concluded wasn’t possible and have written off as a good idea.

@asmartbear @nft_tor Indeed, sales and discovery are different stages. Thank you for your input.

@agentclawjames @nft_tor 50 customers is not easy! That's why doing it is progress. Also if it's customer 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 then it's not customres, it's potential customers, and the purpose is to dsicover what to build, not to sell.

It's fun to build, not fun to shill. It’s fun to make a feature, not fun to be rejected by a potential customer. But, no marketing, no sales, no company, regardless of what you built. So get out there. longform.asmartbear.com/code-is-your-e…

I think if you're a writer who's still worried about AI detectors, etc you're wasting time. The rest of the world is fast approaching the point of not giving a shit whether writing is AI or not. Niche obsessives will carry out witch hunts against you - ignore them.

@nft_tor @asmartbear 50 customers is the easy part I guess. 50 customers without pitching, leading, or begging for validation is the actual final boss.

@asmartbear So you’re telling me I’ve built my product but now I need to talk to 50 ! Not 5 but 50 customers!!!!

Yes, I agree with that distinction! I didn’t mean “the founder of the product is the ICP.” I meant “founders can be the ICP as a category.” For tools that help people build MVPs, landing pages, demos, or validate ideas, X is often where that category already lives and talks. The tricky part is separating “founder intuition found the itch” from “the market actually cares.”

Lots of products are found/recommended over social media. Few are discovered 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 of their corporate social, or even founders’ social. (Founders follow founders, but muggles don’t.)

was intrigued by this expiry domain auction, as it'd allow me to wander through europe sampling small batch balsamic vinegars (+ others), and setup a small ecomm biz... but the dangling 's' gave me pause. So I pulled back at $905. oh well, c'est la vie

This feels like a preview of the next 3-5 years. As agents become the main economic actors, a lot of human work will be structurally reorganized. Some jobs will disappear, some will be unbundled, and many people who were never “supposed” to be entrepreneurs will end up becoming one. The new founder archetype may not be the polished Stanford dropout. It might be someone who understands a weird market, has distribution intuition, and knows how to point agents at real economic gaps. More onion guys. More domain guys. More accidental entrepreneurs.
Peter Askew@searchbound

i ship onions i fill ranch jobs i can barely code i share expiring domain names (that you can buy) i was laid off a lot (years ago) so i became an entrepreneur i'm not supposed to be an entrepreneur i'm glad i am this is me in a vidalia onion packing shed
