More details about the Thoroughbred Championship Series: - A horse must start in four of the six races to be eligible for the series title and the $5 million bonus pool, which will pay down to eighth place in the final standings. The #KyDerby carries the most points. - NYRA President and CEO David O'Rourke said future structure of the series for 3-year-olds could include other races, and the series could also expand. O'Rourke: "This is just a foundation to build off of. We're starting with 3-year-olds. Conversations could go into other divisions." O'Rourke also said: "In terms of what we're doing today; we're announcing the beginning of it. We wanted to set the foundation, but in no way does this touch the Triple Crown.."

I am in favor of any and all new ideas to grow racing and increase interest in our sport. So I welcome The Thoroughbred Series introduced by Churchill and the NYRA and I look forward to competing in the new series. But the greatest achievement in racing will always be winning the Triple Crown - The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes. The Triple Crown has sustained our sport for more than 150 years, and it will continue to do so for another 150 or more, if we appreciate it and care for it. The Preakness is integral to racing’s history, present, and future, and I hope nothing detracts from its significance. If I have the right horse, I’ll continue to run in Baltimore every May, as well as in The Thoroughbred Series.
