Some are celebrating and that's fine ... but imo, World of Warcraft's move away from the "Horde" and "Alliance" faction split will be seen as a historic mistake.
Not only does it undermine decades of lore and world building, but player identity is how you reach your audience when they're *not* gaming. WoW's iconic faction split is under threat, and that's a bad thing imo.

Hot take but I kinda like how Blizzard has been mostly unapologetic moving on from the factions since the 4th war and more on specific racial divides. Meanwhile it's kinda cringe seeing some still doing the faction scorekeeping as if there was ever going to be a winner.

Part of the problem with post BC WoW is that it went so all out on WC2 nostalgia that almost no one seems to remember WC3 besides the names of the major characters.

What connects me to Warcraft is everything else.
Dragons, old gods, naaru, titans, elementals, all the lesser races, the cosmic planes, etc.
The *World* of Warcraft is so much more than just the Horde and Alliance.

@himbussy The elven rivalry is basically iconic of how much of a stupid swerve it was. Even the darnassian-thalassian language split was clearly only added because they didn't want cross faction communication, they speak the same language in 3.

@MeesRp Bringing back Horde vs. Alliance was the biggest mistake WoW did to Warcraft, now years of splitting the world into red and blue created fans that can't see beyond that, everything has to be Horde/Alliance. There are people who think TWW was Alliance, cause Alleria and earthen
