No one wants India to not buy Russian oil Russia is producing around 10 million barrels a day. The quality is medium sour to heavy sour. Very few refineries can handle this. Indian refineries are tuned for this crude. If India decides to not buy this oil, around 5-6mmbpd will be removed from the market. But there is demand and what follows by sudden reduction is supplied when demand is strong - a major price spike! No politician wants a price hike. Certainly not Trump. Unless Saudis decide to pump extra 5mmbpd of Arab heavy oil (which isn’t possible), the world needs Russian oil and the world needs Indian refineries to process that oil. But Venezuelan oil? VZ is currently pumping 850kbpd. That’s it. It’s nothing. It has no infrastructure to even hit 2 millions barrels a day. It can’t replace Russian oil. It will take them decades and $100B to hit 3 million barrels a day. The only way Russia can be cut from the oil market is if Canada starts to pump extra 4mmbpd and there is no way Canada can build a pipeline to move so much oil. At best it can move extra 1.5mmbpd by 2035 if the work on the pipeline began today!
