Shostakovich d otd 1975. Such a powerful composer - I can't understand why some people reject him. Quite aside from the impossible circumstances of his life, he was such a master musician! His music is so vividly imaginative, so irresistibly passionate - and so brilliantly witty.

I didn’t know where I belonged until I joined music ensembles. I didn’t know where I felt comfortable until I hung out in practice rooms. I didn’t know who my real friends were until I made music friends. Ensuring music is in our schools is ensuring the support that so many need.

I discovered music in the music room. I made friends in the music room. I found acceptance in the music room. I gained confidence in the music room. I found comfort in the music room. I discovered myself in the music room. The music room is such a meaningful place to so many.

Music Education isn’t an expense, it’s an investment. An investment in our young people, an investment in our communities, an investment in our health and well-being, an investment in our futures, and an investment in who we are and who we want to be. Music is an investment.
