@benkite1 My favourite read of all time. For me the best read of an infantry officers experience in Europe 44/45. Love the drawings and pictures as well. Pair it with “Fear is the Foe” by Stan Whithouse for a footslogger perspective and it gave me a good idea what misery really is....

First read this in 2004 and it gets better each time. Seems very appropriate as we head into Autumn, for it covers a Platoon Comd’s War from the assault on Walcheren to VE Day - Including a brutal winter. A valuable text for any tactical commander, perhaps better than 18 Platoon?
