Liftoff. The Artemis II mission launched from @NASAKennedy at 6:35pm ET (2235 UTC), propelling four astronauts on a journey around the Moon. Artemis II will pave the way for future Moon landings, as well as the next giant leap — astronauts on Mars.

"Canada’s story gets even more depressing when only young people under 25 are counted. The country then falls to 71st, another new low. Young people were once, on average, the happiest Canadian cohort; now they’re the most miserable. And when compared to 136 countries, that 10-year drop in life satisfaction is one of the largest in the world, placing Canada just four slots from the bottom."
The Globe and Mail@globeandmail

In the country’s worst-ever showing in the 14 years that the report has been published, Canada ranked 25th out of 147 countries in the life-satisfaction standings. theglobeandmail.com/life/article-c…

No discussion of tech media can get past this basic traffic fact: in the AI world, Google and social no longer refer traffic, which means that the vast majority of readers just never find you in the first place.

It just seems implausible this is what we are made of, essentially, nanotechnology about a billion years beyond anything we can design or make ourselves.

AI can make work faster, but a fear is that relying on it may make it harder to learn new skills on the job. We ran an experiment with software engineers to learn more. Coding with AI led to a decrease in mastery—but this depended on how people used it. anthropic.com/research/AI-as…

@JacobAShell Yeah I don't think anyone outside of his supporters thinks he's serious about doing some technocratic overhaul, it's just gonna be lots of spending for lefty identity projects. A de Blasio redux, but more removed from reality.

The simplest version of what I'm saying is there should be some Scandinavians in that admin -- *if* he's a real social democrat and he's interested in the question of how to actually have and govern a social democratic city. And if really he's just "too hardcore" for social democracy bc he's a socialist/communist ("so hardcore!"), then where are the advisors from communist cities? Nowhere to be found, because it's all a pose, it's rhetorical oneupsmanship.

The math on this image is insane. New Horizons transmitted at 2,000 bits per second from 3 billion miles away. Slower than a 1990s dial-up modem. It took 16 months to download all the flyby data. The spacecraft had to hit a target box 100km wide, arriving within 150 seconds of schedule, after 9 years of flight. Miss it and the preloaded observation commands point at empty space. Ten days before arrival, the spacecraft crashed and went into safe mode. Engineers had 72 hours to restore everything. The probe is now 5 billion miles out, still whispering data back to Earth. We got 50 gigabits of Pluto photos using technology slower than your phone’s bluetooth.

Harvard Crimson claims that the younger economist Summers was hitting on and getting advice from Epstein about was Keyu Jin. The nickname used by the two geniuses to refer to her seems to have been "peril" - probably short for Yellow Peril. All of the social drama about Epstein is a distraction. Was he, or was he not, blackmailing US leaders (including eg Bill Clinton) on behalf of intel agencies, perhaps Mossad?
