@ahoss5 Not at all. My prediction is the movie will drop 60-70% in its 2nd weekend, then track to lose money.

The Odyssey is going to bomb. We know this because the target market is the very demographic that are boycotting the film. If not for the DEI and modern LA slang, this movie would have made $2 Billion at the box office, minimum.

Christopher Nolan calling people providing legitimate criticism of The Odyssey "irrelevant" because they disagree with race-swapping Helen of Troy, casting a tranny to play a greek warrior, & more, is just pure deflection & arrogance... Full thoughts: foxnews.com/outkick-analys…

@jackunheard That's just rationalization by Nolan. He simply wasn't going to make a movie that didn't meet the Oscar DEI rules, so suborned all his integrity to be in compliance, despite the effects of those rules on a historical film.

JUST IN: Christopher Nolan says The Odyssey adaptation was designed to move beyond the “cultural prejudices” associated with the ancient world and resonate with diverse modern audiences. So in other words, he ruined the movie.

@SamGreenwoodRIO A player shouldn't be penalized for +EV entries, but the points you are awarded should decrease with every re-buy. Players still incentivized to fire but skill is prioritized over degen. WSOP won't agree because they never want to deprioritize degen, however

@SamGreenwoodRIO I agree that Phil's argument is dumb, but there should be some adjustment for # of re-buys. A person firing 5 bullets and finishing 4th is not more impressive than someone firing one and finishing 5th, but PoY points are blind to that. Easy fix

Congratulations Christopher Nolan! You've created your very first failure flop of a film. The Odyssey is going to lose money, and you fucking deserve it. Fuck. You.

@DineshDSouza He had an all-white cast in Oppenheimer and that movie won everything. So he's pandering now, why exactly? Idiot

Orson Welles didn’t do it to be politically correct and win an Oscar. It’s the shameless pandering we’re objecting to, and one has to be willfully obtuse not to see that.
Claire Lehmann@clairlemon

The Odyssey is a long-form poem about a myth. It has a long history of being reinterpreted by artists, directors, & translators. Orson Welles cast Eartha Kitt as Helen of Troy back in 1950. Today's critics are culturally illiterate buffoons. quillette.com/2026/05/25/hom…

@bencb789 The only problem with this is that WSOP will never agree to it. They sell bullets. They don't want to disincentivize max degen behavior in any way

@bencb789 What about simply adding # of bullets as a penalty? POY uses ln(Final Rank / Total Entries). Multiply by bullets. Guy fires 5 bullets, comes in 4th vs. guy fires 1 bullet, comes in 5th -> 371 vs. 346 pts currently. Add bullets -> 207 vs. 346 (1000 entry $1.5k)

Is this the best fix for the POY ranking? 👇 Instead of awarding POY points only based on finishing position, which heavily favours mass re-entry players, reward points based on: Cashes minus rebuys. Why does this make more sense? 🤔 Right now, the POY leaderboard gets heavily skewed by players firing a lot of bullets and collecting points through min-cashes, final 3 tables, final 2 tables, etc. But that does not always mean they are crushing. It often just means they fired more. With this system, top finishers like 1st, 2nd or 3rd would barely be punished. And that makes sense. Because if you finish top 3, you usually make a lot of profit even if you re-entered multiple times. But players who “buy” their way into deeper finishes, like 18th, 9th or 8th, would get punished more accurately. Because many of those scores are barely profitable after multiple bullets. Example: A tournament has 1,000 players and 100 players make the money. You will have many min-cashers who fired only 1 bullet. With this system, some of them could now rank higher in points than someone who finished a bit deeper but fired 5 bullets and barely made profit. And honestly, that feels way more accurate. Player of the Year should reward the best performers. Not the biggest bankrolls or best staking deals.

What are we doing? Some of the guys that fire $1M (or $2M) trying to win @WSOP Player of the Year have gone public saying the system is fair Obs the system is NOT fair. If you lose money at WSOP, you should not win POY. It’s a simple fix… #POSITIVITY

@bencb789 Why not just base points on buy-ins generated? Every buy-in you lose is negative points. Some buy-ins (high rollers) are worth more than others. That said, I don’t think you should be penalized more for losing high roller buy-ins (the reward should be asymmetric)

Imagine I play 2 separate WSOP events. In both events, 1st place is worth 100 POY points. So the maximum I can win is 200 points. Makes sense. Now let’s say both events are freezeouts. I win one event and get 100 points. In the other event, I bust before the money and get 0 points. Total: 2 buy-ins, 100 points. So why not apply the same logic to re-entries? If you fire 2 bullets in one event, your maximum points should be reduced to 50%. If you fire 5 bullets, your maximum points should be reduced to 20%. The more bullets you use, the less POY points you should be able to win. Because Player of the Year should reward the best players. Not the players who can fire the most bullets. However, there should be a mechanism where when you reach the final table, you get bonus points. Assuming you finish 3rd with 4 bullets over someone finishing 4th with 1 bullet. You still end up profiting more as 3rd place finisher despite having more bullets. Which needs to be considered. Again, our goal should be to find a system that balances the most "profitable and consistent cashers". My suggestions has flaws for sure, but it is still better. Perhaps diminishing the points by 5%-10% with every rebuy might even be better. It also heavily depends on field size. Again, not perfect but still better than just rewarding pure cashes. Or, how about the following the solution 👇 Deduct the rebuys from cashes. Now create a new ranking for the very tournament based on true profit and distribute the POY points accordingly.
