The next great hitter to come out of Virginia Tech is 3B Carson DeMartini. Had a stellar Freshman campaign in 2022 in which he hit .352 with 32 XBH and 50 RBI. Picked up right where he left off last season, hitting .323/.455/.593 with 13 2B, 10 HR, 57 RBI, and more BB than K. Was also named a Cape League All Star in 2022. Athletic build at 6', 195-pounds. Open stance in the box, not a lot of moving parts in the swing. Slight barrel tip as a timing mechanism, big time bat speed. Does a nice job hitting against a firm front side. Consistently gets the ball up in the air with impact. Plus power, borderline plus-plus to the pull side. You will not beat him with the FB! Hit .414/.528/.966 against FB 92+. Above average hit tool. Bat-to-ball skills and overall approach have improved tremendously. Overall miss rate plummeted from 33% to 21% between 2022 and 2023, including 30% to 16% against FB. Good athlete over at 3B with solid range. Comfortable throwing from different arm angles and on the run. Above average arm strength. Could make the move to 2B eventually, but will stick on the dirt regardless. Potential top-50 overall pick in 2024.

Let me set the scene: It’s Friday night at Camden Yards. Adam Jones retired an Oriole infront of a sold out crowd of over 40k. The Orioles and Rays head to the bottom of the 9th tied. Brandon Hyde decides to play the matchup and pinch hits Heston Kjerstad for Ramon Urias to make his Major League Debut. Kjerstad falls in the count 1-2 when suddenly infront of 40,000 standing Orioles Fans Kjerstad hits one onto Eutaw Street to allow the Orioles to clinch the playoffs for the 1st time since 2016… The rest is history.
