Its not a conspiracy its a fact. The first time it was used was 2001, 3 years after the BCS. Here was that first use of the term. andersonsports.com/football/acf_b… Then the NYT ran a piece in 2006 nytimes.com/2006/09/01/spo… Then ESPN started using it frequently in their broadcasts. The only point of a regular season is to seed for the playoffs. What did the "most meaningful regular season" do for UCF when they won 25 games in a row in 2016-2017? Did they get a natty or even a chance to play for one? What did it mean for Utah when they went 12-0 and mud stomped Alabama in 2004? Or Auburn or Boise State who were also undefeated in 2004? What did it mean to TCU when they went undefeated 2 years in a row in 2008-2009? Or Utah when they again went 12-0 in 2008? Or Boise State who won 25 games in a row in 2008-2009? When multiple teams win 25 games in a row and nobody outside those fan bases remember it because they didn't even get a chance to play for a national championship then it shows the lie about the "meaningfulness" of the regular season. It was only meaningful to a handful of teams.

The loudest voices against expanding the playoffs seem to fit some of the following categories 1. Grew up in the 90’s 2. SEC fans. 3. Employed by ESPN Here’s why 👇👇👇

@Manning4USCong @dannykanell Not everything is some conspiracy. College football does have the most important regular season currently. If you want that to change, that’s your opinion. But it doesn’t make 90% of CFB fans that disagree with you gullible or retarded or sheep. Your name calling isn’t convincing

The propogandist talking about about the "most important regular season" started after the creation of the BCS. It was the lie told to the gullible that shutting out 99% of the schools from the national title was a good thing. The idea the only teams worthy of a playoff spot are undefeated teams is retarded.

@richlundt @DouglasFir33 @dannykanell lol i thought they were too 😂. No matter how far you expand there’s gonna be bubble controversy. 16 wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world but 24 seems crazy to me

@aightdiffernt @DouglasFir33 @dannykanell BTW, my point is at all three teams should’ve been in the playoff. I actually thought Alabama was a threat to the national title. The only way all three of those teams get in Miami, Notre Dame, and Alabama is expanding the playoff.

@aightdiffernt @DouglasFir33 @dannykanell Not hard to say at all. BTW, they lost at A&M on a 4th down play where a free runner was tackled by the OT… the most egregious call of the year. Lost by 3 at Miami the 2nd best team in the country. One of Bamas best wins was Vandy who was significantly worse than Iowa.

@aightdiffernt @DouglasFir33 @dannykanell But hindsight has told us that the sos was a total mirage….. Bama was not competitive with the top teams. Notre Dame clearly was and could’ve actually won…. Keep in mind Miami almost got left out….

@richlundt @DouglasFir33 @dannykanell Alabama got in because they had the same record at the end of the regular season with better SOS. If you boot them for an SECCG loss then teams would have to start thinking about opting out of conference championship games. But don’t worry ND rigged it going forward.

@aightdiffernt @DouglasFir33 @dannykanell Alabama getting in last year is the best argument for expanding the playoff. Notre Dame was an actual title contender by year’s end and could’ve actually won. Alabama was not even close to a contender but got in because SEC and ESPN..

@Manning4USCong @dannykanell It’s also popular because every game matters. MLB and NBA ratings shoot through the roof in their playoff, because no single regular season game matters that much. I don’t want every SEC/Big10 team to get 3 free losses. 24 is too far, 12 hasn’t been bad for the sport yet though.

@aightdiffernt @dannykanell It’s popular because it’s football not because it’s some unique alien life form. A legitimate playoff isn’t going to change its popularity. The expanded playoffs have increased viewership and interest.

@aeisberg @dannykanell It’s not that ridiculous. Other leagues see a huge increase in ratings from regular season to playoffs because they’ve made their regular season matter less by including more teams in the playoffs. “Do or die” is more exciting than a battle over seeding.

@Manning4USCong @dannykanell Not everything is a conspiracy. The SEC was just on top for a while. Now the Big10 is. Is that a conspiracy? Why should CFB want to be like other sports? It’s the 2nd most popular sport in the US because it’s different. How many playoff blowouts do you need to see? It’s too big

Yes why should we pretend this singular division of football is so different from literally every other sport in the world we think we KNOW who can and can’t win the championship before the game is played. So let’s give it fewer playoff trans than literally every other sport in college. Also let’s be really dumb and pretend that because we KNOW before the game is played how many teams 3-5 years in the future CAN win a title. Super smart analysis. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the minimalist playoff was a monopoly to ensure only a few teams ever got the money and talent. Do yourself a favor and look at the national champions in the 20 years before the BCS and tell me what’s the pattern? Who is the dominant team? What is the dominant conference. I’ll wait.

@Manning4USCong @dannykanell At 12 teams we are already including several teams that aren’t real title contenders. Are you old enough to remember bowl season too? That’s how good seasons should be rewarded. Not by pretending by they deserve to play for a national championship.

Yes how dare a sport think about what’s good for the entire fanbase instead of just 10 of them. It’s definitely healthier for a sport to ignore 90% of fans. I’m also old enough to remember when 10 wins was the benchmark for a great season. I guess now that we have playoffs we pretend 10 wins isn’t a great season.

@DouglasFir33 @dannykanell You think the playoff should expand and bring in worse teams than Bama last year? That’s what will happen. I know Alabama wasn’t great last year. With the 12 team model Bama can lose three times and still make it. You want to see a 4 loss Bama make it? I don’t.

@aightdiffernt @dannykanell I’m not sure this is the offseason where we need to be lectured by a Bama fan that regular season could become meaningless if the playoffs expand.
