Dear incoming interns: Remember that your attendings have been practicing medicine for years, while you're essentially getting a new job every 4 weeks. Know that your job is not to know everything. Your job is to show up, ask questions, & care deeply for your patients.

I've been thinking about compassion and pediatricians. There's an idea that pediatricians are "softer" than internal medicine docs because we take care of kids. And kids are cute! Funny! Sticky! 1/

Enjoying today’s morning session on teaching anti-racism on the wards. Lots of great pearls to take back for the next time I’m on inpatient service. #SHMConverge

Key takeway from discussion of #POCUS and volume status. >6 B-lines for CHF patients at discharge can predict greater risks of readmission and mortality. #SHMConverge

To the Vanderbilt EM residents, the peds residents, the surgery residents, all other medical staff, we are with you today. Nobody should have to treat peds GSW. This should not be a thing that happens.

30 infants die and we recall 4.7 mil Rock ‘n Play Sleepers. 2 toddlers die and we recall 3.2 mil Calico Critters toys. 2 infants die and we recall so much formula that the US goes into shortage. Last year, over 6,000 children were injured by gun violence. Nothing. Nada.

This resonates with me so much. Even as a professional, being a part of a code is a traumatic event and we need better recognition that healthcare workers need support.
Lexie Mannix, MD@ALMannixMD

Seeing how much the world accepts that it’s impossible to move on after watching CPR really makes me think about how we (medical professionals, especially those who work in Emergency departments) are expected to just move on immediately after a code.

You know when you’re running late in the morning / are already a little stressed out but after you park the elevator is miraculously there so you’re like okay! Change of how this day will go! But then you literally get stuck in the elevator????? 🙃
