It needs to be said… This is not just a sickness of the mind. It is also a sickness of the Spirit. Donald Trump needs Jesus. And we need every person who loves Jesus to stop acting like this is okay. It’s not okay. It is sinful, deranged, and very unChristlike. Follow Christ. Not Trump.

Jesus... Avoided original sin by His incarnation. Resisted temptations to sin during His life. Defeated condemning sin by His death. Overcame sin's power by His resurrection. Subdues our abiding sin by His intercession. Will destroy all sin when He returns. Praise Jesus.

@2D0XPS Hi Daniel, I totally agree places like Hebrews command meeting, but just reflecting, does anywhere command meeting on a Sunday morning specifically? Not trying to be picky.

@ajdbond Only 14% of the workforce work shifts; only 20% work on Sundays (and that includes those who work shifts). On the whole, work isn't an excuse for most adults. It's desirable because God commands it in his Word; good as they are, he doesn't command we have a daily Quiet Time.

If we could convince everyone in our "Worshipping Communities" that worshipping the Lord on the Lord's Day with the Lord's People was actually the best, and most important, thing they could be doing on a Sunday we'd reverse 20yrs worth of decline.
Daniel Heaton@2D0XPS

"Worshiping Community" (WorCom) numbers almost double "Usual Sunday Attendance". Half the CofE are habitual Sabbath-breakers. Gap has gotten wider since Covid; people attending less frequently.

@holydisrupter As a Father of 2 vicarage kids. I don't think it's the Dioceses role at all. That's my job & our church's job. They see parents who love Jesus, a Church alive & people coming to faith, we pray for them lots & are grateful atm they are going after Jesus. I know this could change.

@AimeTim Can you unpack why liturgy should be done in this way?

3. In fact, rather than "enlivening" the experience of liturgy, this sort of directed speaking is exhausting for the congregation.

1. Last night I was reminded of something about evangelical church services that I find difficult: so many liturgical elements are now inserted (a change from 10 years ago), but these are all said with maximum intonation - variations in pitch, loudness, rhythm, and stress.

@liambeadle Interesting, I don't see it as performative. Simply I find it dull and unengaging when done with what I consider that liturgical voice.

Absolutely superb THINK conference on Isaiah by @AJWTheology these past few days. Such a joy to worship together in Word & Spirit.

@liambeadle I think there is something in things being "good enough", I've been in many churches where things were cringey and a distraction to worship. I don't think improving inevitably leads to growth, but I do think poorly led services can hinder growth.

@AJWTheology I've often thought about when the crowds say, "Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands" is actually exactly what a good leader wants to hear. It's hard to watch people exceed what we've done in ministry, but it's actually a metric of success.
