Elon Musk claiming that money will not matter in ten years is one of the most dishonest distraction tactics ever deployed by an oligarch. Listening to him talk about a post-scarcity world makes him sound bizarrely like a utopian communist, except he insists on keeping all the capital in his own hands. The world's richest man is suddenly preaching a pseudo-communist fairytale where artificial intelligence and humanoid robots eliminate economic scarcity and render money obsolete by 2036. If there were a single grain of truth to his utopian claims, his actual behavior would look completely different. Instead, every single action he takes directly contradicts the post-scarcity fantasy he sells to the public. If money were truly heading for irrelevance, public debt figures would be irrelevant, corporate profits would be meaningless, and tax policy would not matter. Yet Musk spends his energy railing against taxation on the wealthy and cutting social safety nets under the banner of ”government efficiency” (DOGE was not efficient in any way and did not make the US more efficient). Why cut USAID and cause thousands of deaths if money won’t matter in ten years? This is a classic maneuver from a compulsive liar with a massive ego. Musk has built an empire on serial overpromising, from claiming full self-driving was just one year away for a decade straight, to promises of landing crewed missions on Mars by 2024. Being skilled at business development and technology hype does not mean he understands political economy. He is simply applying marketing rhetoric to macroeconomics to serve his own immediate interests. Strip away the futuristic jargon, and his message to society is remarkably simple: grant me total tax breaks, maximum deregulation, and unprecedented capital concentration today, and trust me that wealth inequality will magically resolve itself tomorrow. He is playing the public for fools while continuing to collect every dollar he can lay his hands on. Elon Musk telling the public that money won't matter in ten years is the ultimate grift from a billionaire who spends every day trying to hoard more of it. He is the ultimate con artist
