Glad to see Bam Waraporn presenting her work on RNA-seq of O. viverrini carcinogenic liver fluke at an international conference. Good practice for the upcoming thesis defense ☺️ #ammf

Asking online - what would be a good lab retreat schedule? And what would be the most memorable activity? Any suggestions are welcome! PS We are doing a two day lab retreat after the whole lab is attending conference/forest sampling!

Remember learning that #ribosomes are made of 1 large subunit RNA + 1 small subunit RNA? Well, some cells defy this rule, and the most extreme case is #Toxoplasma which makes its mitoribosome from >50 RNA pieces! Wanna know how? Read the next comments.

Excited to report that we have discovered a new, endogenous molecular clock in unmodified human cells and tissues. It is ticking away right now in almost every cell in your body. Specifically, in a new paper on BioRxiv, we show that RNA editing by the near-ubiquitous ADAR1 in unmodified human cells is sufficient to allow us to infer the ages of thousands of species of RNA. This provides a new way to infer past transcriptional dynamics, without any metabolic labeling or genetic engineering, in anything from cultured cells to patient biopsies. Work by @agreeb66, @JamesBa95200124, @AaronWagen, and many more, and funded by @LNuzhna's Impetus Grants, along with generous support from @ericschmidt and @wenschmidt. 1/

Today my student said “I was in a blackhole” - digging into the genomic data with so deep and almost too far, and almost forgot that we are here to quickly polish the manuscript for a resubmission 🫢. I love that expression 😂. #BeenThereDoneThat #joy
