@MediocreDave People against minimum wage are always the same people who hate stealing too. But either we have a minimum wage meaning we can afford to pay for food or we have to steal it

A bunch of people seem to think that any wage is inherently a livable wage because the people earning it aren't dead. Dumb! Very dumb! Unliveable wages are subsidised by: *debt *benefits *family/friends *savings *reducing quality of life to point it directly damages your health
Kyle Bumpus@KyleBumpus

@MediocreDave But we know it's not less than it costs to live, since they employ living workers.

@Katie_Lam_MP Why are you comparing an entire household to an average single worker’s salary? Rhetorical question, we all know why you’re doing that, you absolute ghoul

More than 600,000 households across the country are now getting paid more in benefits than the average family earns from work. And it's the working people who are being taxed to cover the cost. We can't keep squeezing hard-working people to pay for those who don’t work.

i love how these people think they have some god given right to have their small business - even if they demonstrably can't afford it
Peter McCormack 🏴‍☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪@PeterMcCormack

A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

@SamanthaAsumadu @BareLeft He’s charged with three counts of attempted murder. But only two have politically convenient narratives so no need to report on the third

@LeftieStats The comments here are wild. Working class is just a vibe according to these people. No wonder they all think multi millionaire elite Farage is working class cos they saw him drinking a pint once

@BareLeft Yeah no, sorry, doctors are often cooped up in hospitals for 15 hours a day, they will have a drink with colleagues and will still be discussing medicine- their job… You can put almost any profession in here and it is always an insane take

@JoyceCarolOates Interesting to see someone in the wild admit that they’re one of those people who are like ‘I read a book about this topic’ (watched a reel), ‘I read a review about that show’ (saw a tweet)

a tweet is not a review which would be 1,000-1,500 words. postings are informal opinions.

@JoyceCarolOates Would it be ok to write a review of just the first half of one of your books?

@zoekennedy @ZackPolanski In my example I don’t think it would be a good faith argument for Braverman to respond with “who understands racism here?” I think we should fight all false, bad faith arguments of all racism, but I don’t think Polanski is Jewish should be the catch-all defence people think it is

@zoekennedy @ZackPolanski I think it’s reasonable for a white person to say Suella Braverman’s use of the word “invasion” to describe refugees was racist for example, despite the fact that she herself experiences racism. And if we don’t allow that discussion then we’ve lost the plot imo

@alabamarust @ZackPolanski There being racism across society still doesn’t justify someone who has never experienced antisemitism lecturing someone who has and does suffer it.
