🌿New paper from the lab out in @NatureComms We describe the existence of a new organelle (‼️): the Meiotic body. M-bodies contain a core constituted by P-body components, surrounded by a shell of Stress Granules components, and orchestrates gene expression during meiosis progression in Arabidopsis. We demonstrate that SMG7 acts as a core nucleator of P-bodies and M-bodies. And recruits the RNA helicase eIF4A, which plays an opposite role: limits the condensation of P-bodies, M-bodies and Stress granules. And yes, the size of the bodies is important! Cellular biology, biocondensates, protein translation, meiosis, plant reproduction and plant stress lovers 💚, you are welcome: rdcu.be/feByU

Preprint alert 🚨 (1/10) 🧵 Autophagy can promote resistance, susceptibility, or restrict cell death 🤯 So what is its actual role? We show it acts as a spatial organizer of immunity across cell types 🌱🦠 biorxiv.org/content/10.648…

🚨Why can’t mammals regenerate limbs like frog tadpoles or salamanders? In our new paper in @ScienceMagazine, we show that species-specific oxygen sensing acts as a gatekeeper for initiating limb regeneration 🐭🐸 🔗 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… #EvoDevo

Some molecular machines, like ribosomes, persist for long periods in cells Could molecular aging of ribosomes shape how proteins are made? In our preprint we track ribosomes as they age in cells and uncover unexpected effects on translation (1/10) biorxiv.org/content/10.648…

More than 2700 3′UTRs are highly conserved. These 3′UTRs are essential components in mRNA templates, as their deletion decreases protein activity without changing protein abundance. Highly conserved 3′UTRs help the folding of proteins with long IDRs. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Biomolecular condensates organize cellular contents. Most studies focus on passive phase separation, driven by salt, pH, or temperature. But what if intracellular movement also matters? science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… Here, we explore motility-induced condensation in a cellular context.
