Working-class towns and city centres have carried it. Affluent areas haven’t. People have sat in comfortable postcodes shouting “refugees welcome” while making sure it never lands on their doorstep. Look at Hull. Spring Bank, Beverley Road, city centre. That’s where the pressure is. Then look at Cottingham, Kirkella, Swanland, Beverley. Not the same, is it? It’s not hatred.
