@1rorycowan They need to learn how international diplomacy works. Would they prefer that the Taoiseach fired a few insults in the direction of the President and endanger economic stability back home by perhaps causing damage to USA business relationships? They need to take the blinkers off.

Just watching tge Six-One news and RBB, and Ivana Bacik was outraged that the Taoiseach didn't condemn Trump over the war in Iran, etc., etc. If the Taoiseach got those reactions, he must be doing something right 😆
RTÉ News@rtenews

Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan has defended Micheál Martin's performance in the Oval Office after People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett said the Taoiseach did not say "a single word of criticism of the flagrant, murderous breaches of international law" to US President Donald Trump rte.ie/news/ireland/2…

@alcham49 @uuponline Was there any connection with the attack on the Churchill statue in London? Similar time and both with red paint.

Very disappointed with the level of political condemnation of the despicable attack on the statue of Queen Victoria at the RVH. I hope that the silence from some quarters does not indicate any degree of consent for this action in the grounds of a healing hospital. @uuponline

@MatthewTaylorNI @AlexKane221b I have had extensive experience of doing business in the USA. Success only follows building up relationships with your hosts based on trust, respect, and genuine friendships. I used to think you only had to cross the Atlantic to land a factory, but building trust is the bedrock.

Congratulations, Tina, on a top class documentary on career of local ballerina, Melissa Hamilton. It showed the sacrifices she and her family had to make to achieve a dream. Also sadly illustrated how a busy professional career can make family relationships difficult @TinaCnews

The View featured min unit pricing on alcohol. DUP are blocking this proposed legislation claiming lack of supporting evidence. Revealed CMO briefed Health Comm. 2 DUP reps stayed silent. Comm agreed to write letter supporting new law. DUP reps didn't object! Strange! @uuponline

@Glentoran Hopefully, the current Glentoran management team and playing squad will win some company for the Vienna Cup this season. I also hope that my local team, Bangor FC, will cement their successful return to the top tier of local football. @bangorfc

Attended a NIFL community event in Stormont today. After decades of following Glentoran FC, it provided me with the privilege of my first chance of getting up and close with the Vienna Cup, the first ever European football trophy, that the Glens won back in 1914 @Glentoran 1/2

𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 Ulster Unionist Party MLA for East Belfast, Andy Allen MLA, has welcomed the allocation of £6.5 million to the Department for Communities to support people with disabilities to adapt their homes, while stressing the need for better support and oversight to ensure adaptations deliver the outcomes people actually need. Andy Allen MBE MLA said: “The additional funding for disability adaptations is welcome and will make a real difference to many people who rely on these changes to live independently and safely in their own homes. “For many individuals and families, adaptations such as accessible bathrooms, ramps, or widened doorways are not optional, they are essential to everyday life and dignity. “There must also be greater support for people taking forward disabled facilities adaptations to help them navigate what can be a complex and difficult process. Too often, individuals are left trying to manage this system at a time when they are already under significant pressure. “Unfortunately, over the years I have been contacted by people who experienced serious problems where work was not delivered to the specification required. In some cases, adaptations were completed but simply did not meet the person’s needs or to an acceptable standard. We must make sure the outcomes are right and that they deliver for recipients. That means clear specifications, proper oversight, and work being carried out to the required standard, so adaptations genuinely improve independence and quality of life. “I would further urge the Minister to explore how the Department can better support making society more accessible for all, particularly when it comes to non-residential buildings. It is my long standing view that the Department should bring forward a dedicated fund to improve accessibility in public and community buildings. Too many people are still excluded from everyday activities simply because buildings have not been designed or adapted with accessibility in mind. “We must ensure residential and wider accessibility measures keep pace with need and deliver meaningful change for people with disabilities across Northern Ireland.”

2/2 Chief Constable reported the PSNI played no part in recent reported data breach. Good news stories from Belfast Health Trust in relation to targets being met in patient care. Honest assessment that much more to do but universal acceptance recovery going in right direction.

𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗜𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘂𝗺 Ulster Unionist MLA Alan Chambers is bringing forward a motion to the Assembly today calling on the Ministers for Economy and Communities to establish a working group, comprised of key sporting stakeholders to explore the feasibility and appetite for a Northern Ireland sporting museum. Speaking ahead of the debate, @alcham49 said: “Northern Ireland is long overdue a sporting museum, one that champions our sporting heroes and medallists over the years and in the years to come. That is why I’m bringing forward a motion calling on the Ministers for Economy and Communities to establish a working group, comprised of key sporting stakeholders, to explore the feasibility and appetite for such a museum. It is intended to add support to the efforts of Dame Mary Peters and others who have worked for many years to establish such a facility. It is a long held passion that I share with them. “I recall the doubts expressed by many about the sustainability of the Titanic Centre being built in Belfast, and the requirement for 290,000 annual visitors for it to break even. From the moment it opened its doors in 2012, attendance figures have grown year on year, and the figure for 2024 was an amazing 900,000 visitors. “I firmly believe that the rich sporting history we have in Northern Ireland will ensure that a sports museum becomes a major tourist attraction, with the added value of creating employment. “The efforts of all our sporting icons, including our para‑athletes, have enhanced the worldwide reputation of where we call home. Their successes have given our population a major lift in spirit when we sometimes needed it most. “A museum that honours their achievements would be a lasting legacy to our local sporting heroes and would serve to motivate future generations to take up a sport and perhaps emulate our champions. “In the words of that popular movie, Field of Dreams, ‘Build it and they will come.”

@alcham49 @uuponline An all Island cancer strategy should be looked at, people in NI are less likely to survive cancer than those in a jurisdiction just down the road. We currently have an all Island pediatric cardiac service why can't this be set up for cancer? @mikenesbittni

💥🏨NEW: Waiting lists - Health Minister hails 'really, really good news' as delivery nears 'three times target.' 🎤🎥Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 speaking to Health Minister @mikenesbittni. He says the service was asked to deliver 70,000 additional elective activities. Details how that target has already been met and he is “extremely confident” the figure will reach around 200,000 by the end of the financial year. Asked what assurances he can give that progress will continue and what impact budget pressures could have. He admits funding will be “incredibly tight” and very challenging, but says he will not turn away from those challenges.
