You should use Signal. Seriously. There are other encrypted messaging apps out there, but I don’t have as much faith in their longevity. In particular I have major concerns about the sustainability of for-profit apps in our new “AI” world.

There's going to be a talk about protest/censorship-resistant chat app encryption at RWC 2025. Fine, but arguably, the first problem to resolve here is not encryption, it's availability - if you go to an app store and look for such an app, you won't find a reasonable one.
