Had dinner last night with a bunch of hard-tech founders from El Segundo. Really inspiring stuff TBH.
They're building hypersonic missiles, autonomous fishing vessels, nuclear power plants, drones to maintain undersea pipes and cables, early detection sonar systems, etc.
Made me more bullish on America. Many of them in their 20's, already married with bunch of kids, and surprisingly experienced managers/leaders for their age.

@wolfejosh @elonmusk Once fusion is achieved, isn’t it clearly the superior path? Cleaner, safer, virtually unlimited fuel, and no long-lived waste or meltdown risks. SMRs are great for now, but they’re still fission-based.

The Sun is an enormous, free fusion reactor in the sky. It is super dumb to make tiny fusion reactors on Earth. Even if you burned 4 Jupiters, the Sun would still round up to 100% of all power that will ever be produced in the solar system!! Stop wasting money on puny little reactors, unless actively acknowledging that they are just there for your pet science project jfc.

@ramez The technology gap is getting smaller and smaller even for semi. Restricting export won’t avoid China to find their way. The only solution is to keep the competing advantage

Amazon is the latest to release its own AI chip.
Custom silicon is becoming a moat for hyperscalers (Amazon, Google, Microsoft), but only when paired with an equally strong software ecosystem.
Hyperscalers can’t rely solely on Nvidia anymore because:
1. Nvidia captures 60–70%+ of the value chain’s margins
2. GPU supply remains constrained
3. Outsourcing compute to a single vendor creates strategic dependency
The war on margins is now being fought at the chip level and in the software stack.
