Minister @KahlonRav says a local group has come forward expressing interest to buy the Whitecaps and keep the club in Vancouver: “There’s a bid group that’s interested. They’re doing their due diligence, and will be sharing that publicly very soon.”

@alex__bowen @EveryoneNGold The Lights play in a 40 year old baseball stadium that has seen zero improvements since they started. The Lights will always be seen as minor league. Las Vegas wants the top league in each sport. The MLS used to have exhibition games there to start the season and would sell out.

Considering the negative feedback coming from players, coaches, other team supporter groups, internationally, how can the MLS really look at the possibility of relocating the Whitecaps as financially smart? This deal happens and the league looses immense credibility #savethecaps

@TomSwartz296286 From what I recall the Grizzlies also suffered from being just a shitty team as well, and attendance was low. Exchange rate almost certainly played a role. MLS wants to double dip on the relocation fee and expansion fee, but Las Vegas Lights FC could join MLS if they wanted

@alex__bowen They don't have any credibility to lose. They just want money from a relocation fee. I imagine they are having the same problems the Grizzles had. The exchange rate, high taxes make it more expensive to run the team. I think having Canadian teams is good for the league.

@EveryoneNGold Nashville was a USL team that after two season joined MLS as an expansion club. Homegrown. Las Vegas Lights FC can pay the same fee and join MLS as an expansion club if they want.

@alex__bowen Nashville played in a minor league baseball stadium. Averaged about 7k fans. Today we are regularly top 5 in MLS with 25-30k that show up. It’s just a different level. More marketing, more attention, more everything.

@EveryoneNGold It doesn’t sound like people in Vegas even support this when they already have a USL team. Where are the owners going to recoup revenue if nobody shows up to the games?

@_SoccerThoughts The City of Vancouver (separate from BC Gov) has talked about MLB. What do Caps owners want? Have yet to hear their “needs”. MLS driving up the cost with the “expansion fee”. BC Gov not loosening their grip on BC Place is an issue but Caps owners need to be transparent as well

@alex__bowen The biggest obstacle is the province. They want baseball they don’t care about the Caps. That is the problem.
