UNREAL. The folks at @1a, which is produced by @wamu885, say they asked the station's leaders if they would work to retain @dcist's extensive story archive, which dates back years. They... got no response. "If a digital archive disappears... that is a true loss," says @kellymcb.

I wrote an email highlighting the extraordinary damage this does to those advocating on behalf of some of DC’s most vulnerable populations. I sincerely hope they reconsider.

The few remaining staff have communicated this to WAMU leadership. We’ve demanded that they make @DCist accessible to the public. They don’t have an answer for us yet. Once they do, we will share. Follow @WeMakeWAMU if you don’t already

@StacyCloyd Thank you so much for sharing this. I’ve lived in SW for 7 years, and of course, have noticed the crime, but somehow having it laid out this way makes it clear that it really is a pattern.

Now 4 people have been shot, one fatally, within a block of this since 6/7. 3 other instances of gun violence there since 12/23/22. Much of this in broad daylight next to a library and playground. I never hear this area mentioned by DC as a hotspot in need of focused services.

Nah - it's just the real weird H Street of 2006-2012ish already died then transitioned to a weird but less weird version that benefited from subsidized rideshare basically died when Rock n Roll Hotel did in March 2020. Now it's transitioning to something else

Breaking: Biergarten Haus is closing tonight, after 13 years on H Street. Staff found out today. Am told there’s a chance it reopens Sept. 1, but that seems iffy.

Just stepped outside, and I can confirm that it weirdly smells like smoke in Brookland. There's been reports of a weird smell all over the city, but @dcfireems says there's no reports of any significant fires in the city.

The good news is the station manager seemed in good spirits about dealing with what I’m sure was the unpleasant experience of having all metro gates at a station malfunctioning at the same time at rush hour!
