This is how the whole Maldives would look like when it’s fully developed. Happy and wealthy people. Big smiles. No crimes. Love everywhere. Economically resilient. Dollar available. Low level of stress. This is what we need to replicate everywhere. Maafushi has done an incredible job pioneering local island tourism. They’ve truly shown us what’s possible. Much to learn from their success. Now we have the opportunity to refine that model and replicate it across other islands, doing so in a way that is even more sustainable, better and preserves the natural identity of each place, just like how Hulhumale’ planning improved by learning from Male’ experience.

In my latest episode with @mohamedfiraq we discussed the importance of implementing stricter rules for recreational water sports. The @MoTmv must take these measures seriously to ensure the safety and sustainability of our industry. 🇲🇻

This tragic incident was preventable. The Ministry of Tourism (MOT) must collaborate with experienced Maldivian water sports professionals to establish proper regulations. Since the MOT is the sole entity issuing scuba diving licenses, they must also mandate strict standards and registration for all water sports and adventure activities @husendidi @HatthuHasrath
