I’ve gone from attending no in-person tech events since early 2020 to having #TuringFest today and tomorrow and assisting in hosting a Meetup this evening. I’ve missed this!

One of the best things about #TuringFest is the mixture of roles at the conference. I’ve been to talks from a COO, Head of Product and Customer Success Manager over the past 2 days. I’ve been purposefully going to some talks that don’t obviously apply to what I do day to day

Great opening talk at #TuringFest day 2 from @Padday. Talking about how tech companies are in a race, the need to build momentum and how leaders can cause things to slow down/stop if they’re too involved in zoomed in decisions

Hosting the Cloud Native and Kubernetes Meetup at our @recast_app offices in Edinburgh. Two great talks lined up this evening and an amazing view of Edinburgh Castle for in between

Companies then consider hiring a security team as they grow, but that can introduce siloes. Development teams are your security team - It should be a basic execution. We shouldn’t build walls around the whole application but instead protect what’s really important #TuringFest

Next up is @arcurn talking about Building security into the beginning of the development cycle. Data breaches happen all the time. Security is always a priority, but it’s never number one priority. New features are endless so when does security get considered? #TuringFest

We should secure data itself by encrypting. It’s as simple as taking a piece of data and locking it with a secret key. The key needs to be treated as just as sensitive as the data itself #TuringFest

Don’t take on others’ emotions, be aware emotion is contagious. All of this is only possible if you’re reflective in yourself. Ask yourself how you’re feeling and be aware of that. “Healthy companies come from healthy people” #TuringFest

Next up Sherry is discussing joy. How does it show at work? Are we making our safe space for people to be delighted and show that emotion? Celebration reduces burnout and it is vital to wellbeing. It introduces psychological safety as showing joy is being vulnerable #TuringFest

Having an emotional presence at work is important as a leader. Both in working through others’ emotions and in dealing with our own. Emotion is contagious. Being calm and controlled is contagious and is a leadership superpower. As is focused listening #TuringFest
