@om_patel5 I’m glad someone else gets it. I have legit compassion for the grief programmers feel right now. I changed careers at 43, learned to code, andthat major transition made me resilient and I’m adopting to this change FAST. Age works for me here. I know most about AI where I work

THIS SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER HASN'T WRITTEN A LINE OF CODE IN MONTHS he works at a mid-sized startup with over 100 people used to spend his days deep in the code, debugging everything himself from scratch now he just makes the high level decisions on what to build and how to build it while claude, codex, and perplexity handle the actual coding his words: "i just don't see the point anymore" all those hours spent learning languages, frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and security. that time now goes into planning how systems connect, how users experience the product, and how everything fits together he finishes massive features in 2 days now. and yeah he still learns something new. but the sense of accomplishment isn't the same as when he had to suffer through it the dopamine hit of finally solving a bug after a week is gone. it's been replaced by the satisfaction of watching a whole system operate perfectly he's not doom and gloom about it though. he says he actually has way more fun now than he did before but here's where it gets real: he doesn't enjoy learning new languages anymore. not because he can't, but because it wouldn't be worth his time. AI is too good at writing the code for him to justify spending weeks mastering a new language and when it comes to hiring he's asking the hard question: why would he hire someone who's good at writing code when claude is better than most dev teams at writing and maintaining code the skill that matters now is being able to talk about which technology to use and why. system design thinking not the syntax this is coming from someone who is actively getting promoted and praised at work the shift is already here

@Aerosmith that album changed my life…. i went to my uncle in like 1987 as young teen and said “there is this great new band called Aerosmith!” and he laughed and handed me a copy of Rocks on LP… that album is why I started playing guitar.

Palantir CEO Alex Karp rips into AI slop companies: “The appearance of software working, is not software working.” “The slop getting a lot of attention is dangerous in terms of the hyperbolic rhetoric—that there will be no jobs because of slop, nothing will work, we will have a god-like figure in the name of AI.” “In fact, what actually does work is a platform built by a motley crew of highly-technical people who over 20 years have been maligned for being right.”

Jensen is one the smartest and most far seeing folks the world. "If an AI scientist warns people that AI is going to permeate across radiology and radiologists are going to get wiped out, it might seem helpful but it's hurtful. If we convince everybody not to be radiologists and we now need radiologists, that actually is hurtful to society. "It is hurtful to convince all the young college graduates not to study software engineering because we are going to need more software engineers than ever. That's hurtful." "Scaring people with nonsensical things, which are not going to happen, that this is an existential threat, there's a 20% chance that is is existential, that's ridiculous. "That it's going to wipe out 50% of college level jobs. "That is it going to completely destroy democracy. "These kinds of comments are not helpful. They are made by...CEOS. And you become a CEO, maybe you adopt a God complex and somehow you know everything." Brutal. And right.

What the heck is going on with Claude Code. It spends a lot of time telling me things are going to take hours days or weeks to do and wants to stop working a lot. "Or if you'd rather I sleep on it and pick up tomorrow with fresh eyes, that's fine too." Like why would I want you to sleep on it? You don't sleep.

I am actually curious. If junior devs are using Claude to write code at a senior level... And senior devs are using Claude to write code at a senior level... What exactly is the difference between the two roles right now, other than a $100k gap in salary?

Any city/town that opts to fly the old flag is essentially announcing they are a sundown town to all outsiders. People from other states might not notice this "culture war" when they visit, but voting to fly the old, ugly, racist flag says a lot about a town's people.
Matt Hammerman@HammermanMatt

OK, for those saying the new flag looks like Somalia’s, ⬇️. Somali flag actually looks more like the OLD flag which itself looks like 15 other lame blue state flags. New flag was designed by a dude from Luverne. That 8-point star is also on the rotunda floor of the state Capitol

I'm not understanding why anyone needs 6 to 8 Claude Code sessions running. It reminds of 2007, I'm old AF yeah, when guys were running 6 to 8 Poker apps on @PokerStars essentially losing money. Then the crypto bros losing money with 6 to 8 trading screens up. Now it's broke coders doing 6 to 8 Claude Code / Codex terminals. What do you need that for?

I'm 22 years old and Claude Code is deteriorating my brain. Every single day for the last 6 months I've had 6 to 8 Claude Code terminals open, waiting for a response just so I can hit 'enter' 75% of the time. And it's doing something to me. In convos with a couple of friends, it's been a point that's been brought up pretty frequently. None of us feel as sharp as we used to. I don't know if it's just us, or others in their 20s are feeling the same thing, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot. P.S. I know this is a problem with my reliability/usage of it, not Claude Code itself, but the effects are real nonetheless

I have a completely different experience. I think it matters a lot how you use it. I have never learned more and faster about complex topics than now. Using superpowers plugin and running auto mode helps a lot to free you self from the click ok routine. If you plan well before you do not need to worry about auto mode so much. In the meantime you can read and research, make decision for the next session. Use it to make concious decisions - should better use Supabase, Neon or Convex for that project. Ant why? What are the differences? - do you need typescript or python for the next tool? - how does the architecture need to look like? AI can give you suggestions but you need to take the educated decision.

@astnkennedy i’m fortunate in that i get to determine the project, its meaning and outcomes, so i use it as a means to end. if i was being tasked and had no direct overarching control or vision for the outcome, it would absolutely be mind numbing and suck.
