So, today while launching my Etsy shop to promote Clipart Theme Packs (the name of my shop) that I generate and bundle via my web app clip.art I stumbled upon a very serious issue that could put my newly launched shop at risk of being shut down.

Spending too much time in SF makes you forget how early AI still is Last week in Houston I asked Uber drivers what app they wished existed then had my agent build rough apps for them on my phone before dropoff while people in SF debate how agents will reshape the software industry some of these drivers had never used ChatGPT before a few genuinely thought the apps already existed and I was joking when I said I just made them we still have a long way to go before everyone can fully participate in this shift

Do these "make everything free" guys even understand that we would never have accelerated this quickly in AI without proprietary models and investors betting on an ROI? Free Free Free, open it all up for free! Not a knock on Open Source by the way but not everything can succeed as open source. Many of those solutions built themselves off of the scale of proprietary solutions.

Sam, the Orwell line is cute, but ‘democratize a lot of super capable AI and sit back’ only works if the models aren’t locked behind closed doors, paywalls, and safety theater. True democratization means open weights so we can actually build the future, not just prompt it through your API. When’s that version dropping?
