@syereupa There’s no confirmation on this yet, at least not from TBL’s side.

@alldayevrd do we know which episode they will be in? I think Eunchae confirmed Cortis will be ep 2, but the mention of ADP seems tentative that some people commented that TBL may not approve of it. I doubt she would mention it on air if it's not already approved though..

Q. As expectations about the endemic phase increase, the performing arts world, which had been greatly weakened, is gradually regaining vitality. What direction do you hope the dance world will move toward in the future? 🐆: At the beginning of the pandemic, I was very depressed, and I even thought, ‘Are live performances no longer possible now?’ Then, due to the nature of the times, I came to experience many media performances, and now I have started to look forward to what kind of new collaborations might come out when dance is combined with video and the metaverse. I also developed hope that, if media is used well, it could become a global contemporary dance that is not limited by nationality. Now, I rather think it is a good opportunity to further promote Korean contemporary dance through media. Q. I’d also like to hear about the fields you’d like to challenge yourself in going forward. 🐆: Along with dance, I’m currently also pursuing fashion and acting. In a way, dance is closely connected to fashion and acting as well. One of my favorite sayings is ‘If not now, when?’ — and like that, I want to take on new challenges without fear, going as far as I can. youtu.be/CcPWGP8ZxFE?si…

Q. I heard that both of you participated in the same piece — what kind of work is it? 🐆: Hello, this time I’m introducing myself as a choreographer, Lee Chaewon (laughs). I participated in this creative showcase as a choreographer, and the piece is called ‘Foie Gras.’ The process of making foie gras is extremely cruel and artificial. Watching how a metal pipe is inserted into a goose’s mouth to deliberately fatten its liver made me think of myself. For example, like mandatory subjects such as Korean and math that people are forced to study — things that might not make one’s heart race — I started to wonder if people are becoming like geese being force-fed. Animals are most beautiful when they exist in their natural state, but I questioned whether one has to give up their true self in order to become the best. I expressed this through movements involving errors, resets, and mechanical mishaps. After seeing Serim at a competition, I thought she was a dancer I really wanted, so I immediately reached out to cast her. She gladly accepted, and that’s how we ended up working together as a team. ‘Foie Gras’ has already been performed on stage, but it felt like a shame for it to end there, so we filmed it last week with a camera, and we’re planning to release it soon as a dance film. Serim: Speaking about the piece ‘Foie Gras,’ it was really amazing. The role I took on wasn’t the artificially fattened goose, but a goose that exists in nature. So I think it felt less burdensome because it was a role where I could express myself more freely without suppressing myself. Also, since it was a piece that the dancer and choreographer created together, I think that’s one of Chaewon oppa’s strengths as a choreographer. The piece, the choreography — everything about the process was really great. Q. How would you describe each other as dancers? Serim: Someone you can trust and rely on. If you need advice, or when you’re working on something and wonder, ‘Who should I entrust this to?’ — he’s the first person who comes to mind. Even while dancing very freely, he still manages to align everything with what he wants. And whether he’s dancing or talking, he’s someone who makes others feel comfortable. 🐆: As a choreographer, when I ask for a certain feeling, expression, or movement, she immediately expresses it exactly as I describe — so it reminded me of a sponge. Q. Both of you are undergraduate students, and this is a time when your identity as a student and as an artist coexist. What goals do you hope to achieve during your studies? 🐆: The artist I admire the most is Jean-Michel Basquiat. When you look at his work, anyone can immediately recognize it as his — it has such a distinct identity, and he expresses himself so clearly. So I also want people, when they see my dance, to be able to say, ‘That’s Chaewon’s dance,’ or ‘That’s Chaewon’s style.’ I want to find my own color and establish a clear identity. Q. Was there a memorable encounter during your time in school? 🐆: We met Seong Changyong, a senior from the Dance School class of ’02, which is also the year I was born. He became the reason I grew to love dance more. I began to think, ‘What if I could become a butterfly that dances freely on a wide stage like him?’ I consider him a mentor who has taught me inspiration, dance, and everything beyond dance as well. In a way, I think he’s also the reason I decided to apply to Korea National University of Arts. Although I haven’t studied here for very long, I personally believe that our school is not just a place to learn dance, but the only school in Korea where you can learn art. I want to tell those who dream of coming here that this is a school where you come to learn dance, but leave having learned art.

Magazine K-Arts 42 / ARTIST 3 My own color expressed through the body – Lee Chaewon, Park Serim We met Lee Chaewon and Park Serim from the School of Dance, who returned after achieving outstanding results in prestigious dance competitions both in Korea and internationally, such as the 19th Berlin International Dance Competition, the 59th National New Dance Competition, and the 1st Korea Dance Grand Prix. Despite their young age — 20 and 21, having just entered their undergraduate arts program — they spoke about their challenges and dreams with a strong passion for the arts and a solid sense of self-confidence. Please introduce yourselves. 🐆: Hello. I’m Tarzzan Boy Lee Chaewon. Tarzzan Boy is a nickname I got because people say I look like Tarzan, and I’m a 21-year-old romantic boy. Nice to meet you. Q. I’m curious about your mindset when participating in this year’s competition. 🐆: For the 19th Berlin International Dance Competition – TanzOlymp, I did participate with the goal of winning an award, but my top priority was to introduce my dance to an international audience. Because of that, I think it was more meaningful to present myself to overseas peers and judges, so I didn’t feel much pressure. When I heard that I had won the gold prize in the senior solo category, of course I was excited and happy, but I didn’t want to stop there. Instead, I saw it as a stepping stone to push myself further forward. I made a promise to forget what’s already passed and instead imagine a more improved version of myself moving forward. This award became an opportunity for me to think deeply about how I can achieve my goals. Q. Was there anything you particularly wanted to focus on expressing in this competition? 🐆: The piece I performed this time, “Losing Control”, is based on feelings of sadness. When this piece was being created, my aunt passed away, and it was the first time in my life that I witnessed a funeral preparation scene. At that moment, I think I truly felt for the first time what it means for a person to lose their rationality. Those emotions stayed within me, and I believe they came out more explosively on stage. I tried to express a person completely losing control within a contrasting atmosphere of beautiful classical music. Q. What is your routine when you dance, or what is the source of your dancing? 🐆: When I’m dancing, at some point it feels like I’m being sucked into a black dot, and like I’m facing only myself in a space where there is nothing. I can’t see the audience, and I become absorbed only in my own breathing, that quiet atmosphere, and the music I hear. I think I enjoy that moment. I think that is my source. m.blog.naver.com/PostView.naver…
