Today’s negotiations must mark a turning point in restoring and strengthening our transatlantic trade relationship. The European Union has consistently demonstrated that it is a credible, reliable and trustworthy partner, committed to constructive dialogue and stability in international trade. This agreement should not become a hostage to broader geopolitical tensions or domestic political debates in the United States. Our responsibility is to safeguard European businesses, jobs and long-term economic stability on both sides of the Atlantic. We should now be in a position to swiftly conclude this agreement and send a strong signal that the EU remains a committed partner. Only once we have secured a stable framework can we continue building and deepening our transatlantic relationship in a meaningful and forward-looking way.

We welcomed John Malkovich in Banski Dvori and together with Minister of @mintsRH @TonciGlavina and Director of Croatian Tourist Board @Croatia_hr Kristjan Staničić exchanged the views about 🇭🇷 culture, tourism, sports and business. John’s long career and his art success is a great inspiration for younger generations and we are glad he is proudly cultivating his Croatian roots.

📰 Today is World Press Freedom Day. It is an occasion to remember that free media is not a given. Even today, journalists around the world are being killed just for doing their jobs: investigating and reporting the truth. People like Daphne Caruana Galizia, Peter R. de Vries and Ján Kuciak - and many others - lost their lives for this cause. We cannot allow this to continue. Protect the press - protect democracy!

𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗴. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱. The European Parliament voted to demand stronger EU laws against cyberbullying and online abuse. Why? One in six teenagers in Europe has been a victim. That's not a statistic. That's a crisis. The EPP Group is proud to have championed this vital initiative from the very beginning. Now, the @EU_Commission must deliver! But there's more. Since 3 April, a major legal gap is leaving children exposed to online sexual abuse with no EU framework allowing platforms to detect and report it. The numbers are shocking: ◼️ 38 reports every minute ◼️ 54,795 reports every day ◼️ 20 million reports every year 90% of online child sexual abuse was found because platforms detected it. Now, they no longer can. The EU must close the legal gap. ‼️ Protect children, not predators.

❗️Online child sexual abuse material is outrageous. Platforms need legal tools to stop it. Every hour lost means another child harmed. Victims and families deserve action. @EPPGroup calls on the 🇪🇺 Commission for legislation to close the legal gap & all groups to act responsibly.

From one mother’s fight to a European law. What is illegal offline must be illegal online. After losing her daughter to cyberbullying, Jackie Fox turned tragedy into change. In Ireland, ‘Coco’s Law’ made severe online abuse a crime. It closed a legal gap. Now it’s time for a European Coco's Law. The EPP Group is pushing for strong EU rules to protect victims and hold abusers accountable. No more gaps No more impunity Because justice should not depend on where you live. We must stand on the side of victims. @tomastobe @RobertaMetsola @JackieFox21

Cyberbullying knows no borders. Why isn’t the EU doing more to combat this? As Europe’s leading political force, the EPP Group will push to make online harassment a criminal offence across the Union. We want to better protect young people, impose binding obligations on platforms to ensure a safe digital space for children, and deliver justice to victims. Next to cyberbullying, the non-consensual sharing of intimate images of minors is a serious sexual abuse crime and should be prevented and penalised at the EU level. It’s a shame that, currently, there is no legal framework to allow for the voluntary detection of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). We want to change this. We are calling for swift action to detect and prevent the spread of this material. If the EU is serious about protecting children online, the time to act is now! Let’s move from promises to real action. Let’s protect those who cannot fight for themselves.

I am pleased to welcome heads of state and government, as well as representatives of the business sector, to Dubrovnik for the Summit and Business Forum of the Three Seas Initiative @3seaseu, which 🇭🇷 is chairing this year! 1⃣0⃣ years ago, in this very city, the Dubrovnik Declaration was signed. We are gathered around a shared conviction: that the heart of Europe deserves better transport infrastructure, improved energy routes, and stronger digital connections — and that we can build them together. During Croatia’s presidency, we have focused our efforts on building a strong, resilient, and competitive #3SI region, globalizing the Initiative by connecting it with other strategic frameworks, strengthening cooperation with transatlantic and other partners in the fields of energy security and advanced technologies, as well as reinforcing financial instruments. Our region — 13 🇪🇺 member states stretching from the Baltic to the Adriatic and the Black Sea — has grown by nearly 3% annually over the past five years. The total GDP of the #3SI region amounts to €3.5 trillion, and together with our associated partners, we represent a market of nearly 160 million people❗️ Despite this growth, the need for investment in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure remains significant, further underscoring the importance of coordinated action. The #3SI region is no longer just a geographical bridge within Europe, but also a key link between Europe and Asia, with the potential to shape new transport, energy, and digital routes. By connecting with global transport and trade corridors such as IMEC and the Middle Corridor, its strategic position is further strengthened. ➡️In this process, Croatia plays an important role thanks to its geographic location and continuous investment in infrastructure. Our ports, transport routes, and energy capacities are an important backbone for supplying Central and Southeast Europe, and beyond. This Initiative began as a regional infrastructure project but has grown into a framework for 🇪🇺 resilience, economic dynamism, and strategic partnership. At a time of increasing geopolitical fragmentation, it represents a pillar of European cohesion, resilience, and strategic direction. Let it remain a place where Europe’s north and south, their interests and ambitions, come together with clarity and purpose — Croatia remains a committed, reliable, and active partner in everything that lies ahead.

Imagine getting back home from school, dropping your bag, and seeing your phone light up. 203 unread messages. At first, you think it’s a group chat - friends, plans, something funny, but it’s not. It’s insults, screenshots, and messages piling up faster than you can read them. And there is no way to stop it. For many young Europeans, this is not a story. It’s an everyday reality that must end. At the EPP Group, we are working towards stronger EU action to end online abuse: Clearer and stronger rules across European countries. Faster removal of harmful content from online platforms, and real consequences for those who abuse and those who allow it. Because the online space must be a safe place for everyone. And what is illegal offline must be also illegal online. Let’s criminalise cyberbullying across the EU!

"Pope Leo XIV is an important moral authority and a symbol of peace. It is a great honour for me and the EPP Group to be received by him in these turbulent times. We are Christian Democrats, and we believe in Christian values. We must shape our European way of life and build a people’s Europe. Without these Christian values, our European way of life would lose its foundation; Europe would lose its identity," said @ManfredWeber Read:epp.group/6taam442

"Our audience with the Holy Father comes at a crucial moment, when the world is crying out for peace – a peace rooted not only in the absence of conflict, but in justice, dignity, and solidarity among peoples. Inspired by his words, we are reminded that true and lasting peace – one that allows societies to look to the future with a reconciled spirit – can only be built through forgiveness," said @ZovkoEU Read: epp.group/6taam442

📍Next stop ➡️Italy! During times of global instability, Europe must draw strength from Christian values. Values that defend peace, protect the vulnerable, and strengthen solidarity. The EPP Group is heading to Rome for its Study Days, where we will discuss religious freedom and the Church’s vision of Europe’s responsibility in a fragmented world. Stay tuned!

𝗖𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗔𝗡 𝗗𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗖𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗬 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 by @ManfredWeber and @letiziamoratti Celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the European People’s Party in Rome on the weekend of the 25 April is not a rhetorical exercise, but a political act: returning to our roots to understand who we are and where we want to go. These roots are also grounded in the “White Resistance”, that of Christian Democrats and liberals who opposed Nazism and Fascism out of conscience before ideology. Thousands of men and women paid with imprisonment, and often with their lives, for their commitment to non-negotiable values. This is where we must begin to address the still divisive question of what 25 April represents. 25 April does not belong to any single political side. It is the founding moment of Italian democracy, the day on which the country regained its freedom thanks to the contribution of different traditions, Catholic, liberal, and socialist. The “White Resistance” shows that a democratic, European centre-right exists, rooted in Christian values, which played a key role in the liberation and in the building of the Republic. We are the heirs of that history. This legacy defines the nature of the Christian Democratic centre-right in Europe, embodied by the EPP. A political force driven by what it stands for, not by opposition to others. Freedom, human dignity, solidarity, the rule of law, Europe: this is what distinguishes EPP from extremism. The issue of so-called “cordons sanitaires” cannot be reduced to slogans. The EPP does not define itself by exclusion, but by the values it defends: freedom and democracy, European integration, the social market economy, the rule of law, international responsibility, starting with support for Ukraine. On these principles, there can be no compromise. In a democracy, it may happen that different political forces vote the same way on individual issues. This does not imply an alliance, because votes are counted, but values are chosen. And we have made our choice. The EPP remains a bulwark against all forms of extremism, but we cannot ignore democratic discontent. If many citizens are moving away from traditional politics and turning towards sovereigntist and populist movements, we must reflect on the causes: fear of economic decline, migration, insecurity, an increasingly fragmented society and the growing distance between institutions and citizens. For too long, politics has replaced ideas with numbers, and politics with technocracy. But democracies live on vision. It is up to the European People’s Party family to listen, understand, and bring people together, while keeping a firm line against all extremism. This is the difference: extremists simplify, we govern; they divide, we unite; they protest, we solve problems. It is the European Union that has guaranteed decades of peace and freedom after Nazism and Fascism. Today, this means strengthening the European dimension of democracy and our values. The major challenges, security, growth, innovation, welfare, migration, cannot be addressed at national level alone. Europe is the concrete space of contemporary democracy, and for this reason the EPP is calling for a new constituent phase towards the realisation of a European Constitution. 25 April reminds us where we come from. The EPP reminds us who we are: heirs of a freedom that was won, guardians of a democracy that was built, and responsible for a Europe that must be strengthened. This is our strength. This is our responsibility.
