@badiucao I am born in the USA and though I spoke Cantonese with my mother at home it wasn’t until I moved to China that I learned mandarin. It required a lot of work and humility. Then I understood how difficult it was for my immigrants to go to a foreign land and speak English.

作为一个前教育工作者和移民，我觉得二代学中文并不简单或者毫无代价。 有人觉得家庭的中文环境会让儿童有先天优势，因此学中文是水到渠成。然而事实上，儿童到了上学的年纪，由于生活的社交中心偏移到非中文环境，很自然的会逐渐更习惯使用当地语言。要保持语言的能力其实同样需要儿童额外付出时间和经历。 其实许多家长希望孩子继续学习中文，很多时候是因为自己和子女沟通的能力在下降。这种下降一来是与孩子的外语能力差距造成的，再来是文化差异，以及代沟逐渐显现的必然结果。所以即便磨平了语言的差距，也未必保证沟通就能顺畅。

Preparing to head back to ‘Stone Age’ The surging retail price of gasoline has prompted the Royal Thai Police in Lampang province in Thailand return to the ‘Stone Age’ as police officers are testing the use of horse drawn carriages as part of their patrolling exercise. Horse drawn carriages are a unique symbol of the province but the police patrol has never been one of the tourist attraction of the province.
