Is this such a bad thing? I don't think so to be able to replace the battery the camera or the screen? It's a good thing that companies don't like because like that people won't buy phones that often.

@mr_james_c Indeed. It’s not about consumers because 1) consumers do have a choice and 2) consumers do choose every time they buy a new phone. It’s all about control and some form of busywork for politicians and bureaucrats.

Multiple manufacturers have tried selling these types of phones and poor sales have meant they were abandoned. Consumers don't want it, or they prefer other features like their phones being waterproof. The EU consistently falls for niche issue activists and their own hubris. They consistently develop policies that make life worse for European people who then wallow in cope while the world passes them by.

Starting in 2027, smartphones sold in the European Union will be required to have user-replaceable batteries designed for greater durability and more charging cycles. Manufacturers must also provide spare parts and repair manuals for at least 10 years after a model is released. This is real pressure against planned obsolescence. It should mean phones that actually last longer, cheaper fixes, and a lot less electronic waste piling up. About time.

@mr_james_c we need regulation like this precisely because the market didn't get it done. Politics is allowed to overrule the market for the greater good. That's the purpose of regulation.

Beyond generating high-fidelity visuals, we wanted to test the limits of what Nano Banana Pro can do. We worked with design partners Porto Rocha to build out a hypothetical brand called YOYOYO to see how the model would handle the task. Here’s what we found: 🎨Brand consistency: Across logos, colors, and typography, the model maintained a strict, cohesive brand identity (even for wildly diverse concepts) 🛍️Environmental realism: We asked to see the products in storefront and studio mockups. It nailed accurate lighting, shadows, and physical proportions - even when upscaled for massive retail displays 🪀Spatial accuracy: We tested spatial volumes for physical packaging. The generated proportions were so precise that we were able to 3D-print the functional yo-yo How have you been pushing the limits of Nano Banana Pro? Let us know in the replies below!

Starting February, 2027, all smartphones sold in the EU must have batteries that users can replace themselves, using basic tools at home. Replacement batteries also have to stay available for at least 5 years after a product’s last sale, and software locks that prevent third party repairs will be banned.

Europe makes a lot of stupid decisions, but the USB-C and now replaceable battery regulations are actually a good idea. You shouldn't have to pry open adhesive on your phone and worry about breaking glass to replace a battery. Nokia got this right 26 years ago.
Omne Europa@neolatyno

🇪🇺| Europe will require all mobile phones to be sold with user-replaceable and longer-lasting batteries starting 2027. The regulation demands the availability of spare parts and manuals for 10 years to curb planned obsolescence. As per the USB-C ruling, Europe is a giant that can change markets to put European consumers’ needs first.
