If we are aiming to turn Mars into a human colony then the moon should be a total breeze for us to dominate with ease. Mars is a brutal challenge with its insane distance of 225 million kilometers on average and a pathetic thin atmosphere that screws up landings plus months of travel frying people with radiation and zero gravity. The moon is practically next door at just 384400 kilometers with no annoying atmosphere to deal with and we already stomped all over it six times by 1972. If we cannot figure out how to set up camp and own the moon with all our fancy tech then we are delusional clowns thinking we can hack it on Mars. The moon has everything we need to flex our skills like a vacuum environment and puny gravity one sixth of Earths versus Mars one third and a surface we have studied to death. We could boss it with habitats and resources like water ice in craters using AI to make it laughably simple. Apollo was caveman stuff compared to now so why are we not ruling it already. The real scandal is we are obsessed with Mars sexy new planet vibe while the moon sits there like a boring has been. Screw that noise. If we are too lazy or dumb to conquer the moon first then Mars is just a pathetic pipe dream and we deserve to stay stuck on Earth. What do you reckon the moon is for us, a warm up we are botching or a lame distraction from the real prize?
