@garrytan I had the same reaction in SF jury duty, it was a civics lesson. The judge was thoughtful and treated the jury room like the engaged and respectful Americans they were. It made me feel like a proud citizen.

Here's another one in jury duty training that seems to come up in a similar way: We need to treat individuals as individuals, not based on their affiliations or characteristics.
Implicit bias training emphasizes that need to focus on the evidence and the facts of the case.
This is literally the colorblind, individualist ideal. Judge people by the content of their character.
It's the most American thing there is.

I'm in jury duty today. I am taken by how the basic training for jury duty discusses something that we take for granted: equal protection under the law
Brown v. Board of Education and equal protection is literally one of the bedrock judgements that cements fair and equal access
Yet our legislators forget this, and systematically fight this. They keep pushing forward things like ACA7 which would take away equal protection and use race-based preferences to allocate state funding and who gets to participate in things like gifted programs in schools. This is 100% against these principles, and I hope we live to see a day we stop having to fight those who would upend equal protection under the law.
Protect fair equal treatment, regardless of race or any other distinction. It's a quintessential American law.
