We’re lucky Pierre Poilievre isn’t Prime Minister. And let me be very clear what he’s saying about Singapore is completely backwards. Singapore’s success didn’t come from “less government.” It came from: • Heavy regulation • Government-controlled housing • Strict enforcement of rules Everything Conservatives in Canada fight against. So which is it? Because you don’t get to pretend you want Singapore while opposing everything that makes it work.

The idea that capitalism creates wealth while the state merely redistributes it is nonsense. I do think capitalist dynamics play an important role in innovation and entrepreneurial disruption — one of Joseph Schumpeter’s central insights. But there are so many important examples where the state acted as *the* entrepreneur. In South Korea, the state created industrial capabilities that did not previously exist. POSCO is a perfect example: a steel company created by the state in the 1960s and only privatised after it had become highly competitive. In the United States, much of the entrepreneurial risk-taking also comes from the state. In fact, foundational technologies that make up the iPhone emerged from state-backed and defense-related innovation ecosystems, such as DARPA. Singapore is another example, where the state — especially through Temasek Holdings — is deeply embedded in the innovation ecosystem through ownership, R&D, and investment. Many of the world’s greatest successes in wealth creation and innovation have been built on foundations actively designed, funded, and led by the state.

Mark Carney himself saying he’s more conservative than Doug Ford. Stark admission. New Democrats have been saying it for months and Canadians are seeing it more & more: two conservative parties are in the House of Commons. Only the NDP is representing progressive Canadians.

- I Read The Globe and Mail’s Latest Hit Piece On The NDP - In the opinion piece, Konrad Yakabuski attacks Jewish members of the NDP as being antisemitic. He makes the argument that anti-Zionism in 2026 is antisemitism. He says that the NDP has a problem with antisemitism because Wab Kinew opposed the war in Iran. The real problem here is that The Globe and Mail has an anti-Palestinian bias. They regularly attack pro-Palestinian voices, including myself. They aim to discredit the struggle for Palestinian human rights while vigorously defending Israel whenever they can. Canadian media bias has never been so evident—accusing Jewish political leaders of being antisemitic. I was not surprised to see Rebel News go down that path, explicitly labeling Avi Lewis as a “self hating jew” but many of us expect better from The Globe and Mail, a major Canadian newspaper. While their words are softer their message and bias is the same. Alex Tyrrell Leader of the Green Party of Quebec

We are pleased that the CBC Ombud has issued a landmark decision upholding our complaints regarding CBC's false claims that Israel’s occupation of Gaza “ended” in 2005. For years, CBC has repeatedly reported that “Israel's military occupation of the territory ended” in 2005. However, this is a settled question in international law: Israel’s occupation of Gaza never ended, due to its ongoing effective control over the territory. In a direct rebuke of CBC editorial staff, the CBC Ombud sided with our complaint, finding that CBC failed to meet the “criteria for accuracy” in the ethical codes that guide its journalism. An editor's note and a correction were added to the original story. This review helps ensure that CBC News will now have to be honest about Israel’s longstanding occupation of Gaza, rather than obscuring it. This victory provides media advocates with a key new decision to reference when arguing for better from our media. Read more about this impact: cjpmemap.ca/impact_cbc_omb…

It's socialism — not capitalism — that creates prosperity. Norway has one of the strongest welfare systems in the world. In Singapore, most people live in housing built by the government. In Luxembourg, social spending as a share of GDP is among the highest in the EU. Most countries that score well on this chart do so because they have socialist policies in place that increase social mobility and reduce economic precariousness.

And it's precisely people like you - whose ideology is, unfortunately, that of the majority of European elites - who did immense, irreparable harm to Europe. It's now beyond painfully obvious that if Europe had at least applied basic common-sense precautionary principles and told itself that maybe, just maybe, it was insanely dangerous to bet the prosperity and security of 450 million Europeans on the assumption that the most aggressive, interventionist power in modern history would forever make an exception for Europe - we might still have some sovereignty left. This isn't an "extreme left" vs others thing (and the fact you think it is shows you still don't get it at all), it's just a logic vs dumb thing: how can you observe a country systematically destroying anyone who gets in its way over decades and conclude "yes, let's make ourselves entirely dependent on these people, what could possibly go wrong?" That's not liberal sophistication. That's the dumbest bet in the history of geopolitics.
Luis Garicano 🇪🇺🇺🇦@lugaricano

Many of us, liberal Europeans, spent decades pushing back against the European extreme left's cartoon version of America ( it's all oil/ imperialism/getting rich at the expense of others) and then one dumb administration walks in and performs the caricature to perfection.

Champions of the Jewish community @CIJAinfo condemns the election of the only Jewish NDP leadership candidate.
CIJA@CIJAinfo

In response to the election of Avi Lewis as the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Rachel Chertkoff, Senior Vice President, Community Engagement, and Richard Marceau Senior Vice-President, Strategic Initiatives and General Counsel, Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, issued the following statement: “Today, the New Democratic Party elected Avi Lewis as its leader. We are left with a deep sense of sadness. “Rachel’s uncle ran for a provincial arm of the NDP in 1963. He believed, as so many Canadian Jews of his generation did, that the democratic left was a natural home for a community that had faced persecution. It is hard to imagine that he would recognize the party today. "The two of us, along with other concerned Jewish and allied activists, have spent years at the table with NDP leaders, staff, and members. We engaged in good faith and made the case that protecting Jewish Canadians from hatred is not partisan, but foundational. The hope we had that these leaders could bring themselves back from the brink is now exhausted. “This weekend’s convention was a stark reminder of how far the party has drifted from its roots as the voice of Canada’s working class and trade union movement. Canadian Jews helped build that movement. Today, many are made to feel they no longer belong in it. At a time when antisemitism has reached a crisis, the NDP has become a hostile place for the vast majority of Jewish Canadians who want to fight for progressive values. 94 per centof Jewish Canadians support the existence of the State of Israel yet have been pushed out. “Avi Lewis is himself Jewish, and we respect his family’s history in this party. But Jewish identity is not a shield against accountability. When a leader declares that Zionism is inseparable from ethnic cleansing, he is not engaging in legitimate policy critique. He is telling Jewish Canadians that a core part of their identity is illegitimate. That is exclusion. “On the eve of this convention, rabbis from across our community issued a clear call. They warned that Jewish members feel increasingly alienated, that antizionism is being used as a cover for antisemitism, and that NDP spaces are becoming unsafe for Jewish and all Canadians with mainstream views. “We have said before and repeat now that criticism of Israeli government policy is legitimate. But there is a line between criticism and the systematic delegitimization of Jewish identity. That line has been crossed repeatedly. Today, it was crossed again, without ambiguity. “We will hold Avi Lewis, as we hold every public leader, accountable. “But we will not pretend today is anything other than what it is. A painful rupture, decades in the making, with dangerous implications for our community and all Canadians.” -30-

Canada has blocked European MP @RimaHas from entering the country. Rima was slated to speak at events on the topic of Palestinian freedom, including one in Montreal with me and others this Monday. Her visa was approved until the last moment, when it was suddenly revoked. By contrast, Israeli officials complicit in the Gaza genocide and related crimes have had no problems visiting Canada. The anti-Palestinian hate group @bnaibrithcanada lobbied against her visit and his now taking credit for her denial. Solidarity with Rima Has, who I know won't be deterred by this blatant act of political censorship, and shame on the Canadian government for caving yet again to anti-Palestinian bigotry.

Congrats, Canada — no pharmacare, but hey, we hit NATO’s 2% military spending target 🎉 And if you’re thinking, “great, now maybe we can afford healthcare?” … nope. They’ve already moved the goalposts to 5%. Turns out there’s always money for war — just never for you. #cdnpoli

I simply don't believe that Jews are a uniquely persecuted victim group, being "purged" from western power centers like business, media, entertainment politics. It's laughable. Those who get angriest about this spent years mocking victimhood narratives from every other group.
Jesse Brown@JesseBrown

Glenn and I used to be friendly. I once interviewed him on stage in Ottawa, liked him and admired his work on the Snowden story. To shrug off a wave of bigotry and the widely-felt concerns of a minority, on such a petty basis, is beneath the morals of the guy I thought he was.
