It's probably too much to hope that this leads to real change at the FEC, but it's a reminder that America is watching. You should watch too, and learn about the six people Congress and the President have chosen to enforce (/not) the laws our politicians are supposed to follow.

It's no secret that the FEC is dysfunctional. For years its hearing room has been where the work of campaign finance oversight goes to die (or, more accurately, get bludgeoned to death via 3-3 vote). But tomorrow, finally, someone's actually asking questions!

When a person tells you who they are, believe them: this proposal shows not only disdain for the abilities and motives of career civil servants at @FEC, but for the statutes and regulations that give the Commission its law enforcement authority.

To be clear, Dickerson wants to upend decades of Commission practice so he and his anti-enforcement fellows can micromanage and block even the most trivial of investigative steps.

The deadline relates to committee reporting obligations, not to when and whether they can take your contribution. The deadline only matters because the final number for the quarter makes the committee look good or bad. So make your contributions on your timeline, not theirs!

As we approach the end of another quarter, know all those political fundraising emails you get around now telling you to "Contribute now before the deadline!!!!"? They're nonsense.

@mikesully14 @FEC Ah, c’mon, Mike, that’s not the point he was making. He made it sound like Republican presidents have picked out the whole FEC. That’s just not the case.

@PCNedStark How do you figure? Several FEC advisory options have held exactly that. It’s not a particularly controversial legal statement. If you have a regulatory citation suggesting otherwise, I’d be interested in seeing it.
