We were at the embassy with my delegation, just a few hundred metres from where the missiles struck. This must stop. Maxime Prévot's selective outrage is disgraceful. While standing in Beirut expressing "solidarity" with Lebanese authorities, you conveniently omit that Hezbollah - an Iranian proxy terrorist group embedded among civilians - started this round by firing thousands of rockets at Israeli communities on October 8, 2023, in support of Hamas's massacre. Israel didn't "launch with no warning" out of nowhere; it responded to an aggressor that has used Lebanon as a launchpad for war, violated UN Resolution 1701 for years, and deliberately hides its arsenal in civilian areas, turning Lebanese families into human shields. True solidarity with Lebanon would mean demanding Hezbollah disarm, stop dragging the country into Tehran's wars, and let the Lebanese state regain its sovereignty. Instead, you push a false equivalence and a "ceasefire" that rewards the aggressor while ignoring Israel's right - and duty - to defend its citizens from genocidal threats on its border. The violence stops when Hezbollah stops attacking. Anything less is theatre that endangers Lebanese and Israelis alike.
