Alongside a range of partners we are hoping to finally return #sihek Guam Kingfisher to the wild within the next few months. The beginning of a long road to wild recovery for a very special bird following the tragic ecological collapse on Guam and decades spent under human care.
Joel Sartore@joelsartore

The accidental introduction of brown tree snakes on Guam upset a delicate balance in the island ecosystem. Many native lizard and bird species, including the Guam kingfisher, were extinguished from the island. Today there are fewer than 160 Guam kingfishers in the world.

Post mortem reveals hen harrier's cause of death was 'head being twisted & pulled off while the body was held tightly'. Statutory regulator @NaturalEngland still believes partnership working with grouse shooting industry is delivering 'real progress' ⬇️⬇️ raptorpersecutionuk.org/2023/05/06/pos…

As an academic writing coach, I see researchers make these 10 counter-intuitive productivity mistakes that get them LESS (not more) writing done. A thread. 🧵 #PostDoc #newPI #PIchat

Make no mistake - we are also incredibly angry. We stand with @RSPBEngland in calling out the unprecedented attack on nature launched by UK Government over the last few days. We’ll be challenging this together and asking for our supporters to stand with us.

Exciting job as Conservation Translocations Officer examining the evidence for the suitability of further translocations. Forestry England have excellent track record including white-tailed eagles, pine martens, chequered skipper butterflies & pool frogs. bit.ly/3x4ul5x

We need you to tell us if you see a #Curlew with a yellow leg tag, like the one in this photo below. The birds were released in Norfolk but could turn up anywhere as they begin to move further afield! Use this form here 👉 bit.ly/HS-curlew #AutumnWatch

My most unexpected paper has just been published: the first video evidence of a giant tortoise hunting, killing and eating a bird. Tortoises seem inoffensive, if a bit eccentric, but turn out to be the stuff of nightmares. authors.elsevier.com/a/1ddOd3QW8Rwp…

Somehow, it's 10 years since I finished my PhD, Even more surprisingly, I've managed to stay in science, so I thought I'd write a wee bloggy thing about the decisions I've made over the last ten years and how YOU TOO can achieve mediocrity in your field! adhayward.wordpress.com/2021/06/21/no-…

19 #BOU2021 #Sesh6 In summary, here's some personal reflections which I hope shed light on the arcane art of securing government support for restoration, to stop what may have happened to slender-billed curlews from happening to spoon-billed sandpipers or any other birds. The End
