@richchetwynd Can’t speak to offshore, only coastal, but: getting gear that fits well is more important than brand, you’ll be wearing it a lot. Beyond those two I know people who swear by Henri Lloyd. Proper offshore you’re at the top end of the ranges anyway, it’s all good gear.

Shopping for offshore sailing gear. Checked out Musto and HH. The later fits pretty good so leaning that way. Anyone bought gear from them before? Good quality? hellyhansen.com/en_gb/skagen-o…

@sponno asciinema.org has worked well, and to some extent the recordings are editable. Exportable as gif/mp4 or can play back in JS.

Dear lazy web. Can you recommend a JS library for animating terminal commands? A little bit like this one on stripe. (I don't need the fancy autocomplete). I don't want to use a video if possible as I would like to be able to change it easily.

This form field in the Accademia ticket site that requires you to trial-and-error to figure out if it is dd.mm.yyyy or mm.dd.yyyy and also requires you to zero-pad the month and day by hand, feels like the most Italian thing ever.

@traskjd Yeah, works really well. Quality search results. Fast. Can blackhole sites like w3schools I never want to see. The only thing I use actual Google search on desktop for these days is (ironically) buying things and images.

Is anyone using Kagi Search? kagi.com Heard about it recently, sounds interesting. I'm usually a fan of paying for products where I can then avoid adverts, which is what they do. Curious if I know anyone who has converted to using it.

@tveastman Some of the RNZ podcast series are definitely worth a listen: White Silence; The Service; Black Sheep

@ActiveKidsPerth how much are your season passes for kids & adults? I realise 2023 ones aren’t on sale yet, just after an approximate idea.

@simonw Only downside I’ve found is for larger repos it randomly doesn’t index some files (I think there’s a per-directory limit?) which can be very frustrating

@amatix 20kg? Wouldn't it rather blow the economics if you have to buy your cheese haul its own ticket to beat baggage allowances?

I'm still scared I'd break NZ Customs' rules and cop a $400 fine, 14 years' jail and an appearance on a crappy TVNZ reality show ... but apparently there's no need to fear #butter-cheese-milk" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mpi.govt.nz/bring-send-to-…

@louisevr I set up a Davis Vantage Pro2 for the sailing club. Is a nice robust bit of kit, and having the various pieces 300m apart was no problem. Need a web connector as well though, either Davis’ WeatherLink or a MeteoBridge.

Weather nerds: what stations are you all running? What do you enjoy/don't enjoy about them? I have a LaCrosse system set up but am brand curious.

What's the best screen recording software for Mac? I used camtasia years ago and it was pretty good, but is there anything better now?

@tveastman This is why the recommendation for new readers is to start partway through. Then, when they're hooked, they should go back and read the early stuff. Speaking of which, now that my boxes of books are unpacked, I should re-read them, I'm well overdue!

@foss4g @OSGeo I find the accept↔︎borderline↔︎reject continuum a little strange... a talk can be great, well prepared, but just not interesting to *me*. My expectation was to be rating between "I have to see this!"↔︎"This isn't for me"

@sachajudd @RobbieRinder I call this the “Sacha glaring at the first cushion” cushion. And this one is the “Sacha learns there’s another cushion” cushion. 😁

@amatix @RobbieRinder Unflattering photo or throw cushion? Because the answer in both cases is unfortunately yes.

The photos @RobbieRinder takes of me (and subsequently has made into throw cushions) are always so flattering 🙄
